What are good rates for a Solo game?
Something reasonable to keep a good pace and be fun.

That's 100% personal preference, really.

I'm not sure what would feel like cheating and what would feel grindy, so I don't have a preference.

I think that 1 - 2x exp, 3 - 6 gather, and 10 - 15 tames are a decent singleplayer expereince

Thank you.

That sweet spot you're asking for is your preference, really.
If unsure, start playing. If something feels too grindy, log out, adjust the setting, and log back in?
I personally prefer default rates, while many people would not be playing at all if they had to play at default rates, more than likely. A single glance at the server ad board will tell you there is no one answer to your question.

Taming speed: I use 9, it's long enough to make it worthwhile making kibble instead of just using prime meat and getting near perfect tames, but short enough that it isn't too boring. Non-kibble herbivore tames can still take a while though, so cranking it up to 10 or 11 early game might be worth doing, until you get an egg farm established.

With regard to xp and gathering: on vanilla I found that I frequently levelled too quickly, and ended up rushing to endgame without fully testing out and trying some of the lower tier dinos and game mechanics. So to force myself to slow down and smell the roses, I reduced the XP multiplier considerably. I'm currently using an XP rate of 0.1, and I'm actually having a blast with it. Because I can't just bypass them and jump to their higher-tier equivelant, I'm taming dinos which in the past Ive never bothered with, and trying out game strategies and items that I've never really experimented with before.

The one thing I will say if you try that is to crank up the gather rates high, so that you have plenty of building and cooking etc. to do while you level - that way it reduces the grind and makes it more entertaining. I have my harvest amount set to 10, and I've been so busy building an awesome base and taming the dinos I want that I haven't even noticed the slow xp.

For me is 3-5x all tame x10-x15

Fine tune to find your sweet spot. If you enjoy long grinding and waiting countless hours for little progress, fine tune it around 1-2x everything.

If you want a mix, being able to build decently fast (and perhaps something other than ugly boxes) and tames that aren't 4-5 hours with kibbles? Go 3x tame, 5x the rest.

If you want to build, get creative, push the limits, use building mods, etc., x10-x15 everything but tame. Keep in mind you can, on top of globally changing the harvest multipliers, individually alter them. For example, I didn't want 10x on berries and meat, but I did want 10x on stone and metal, so I set them individually.

There's also breeding rates, so all in all just go with your own flow. You can change the rates at any time if you feel you need adjustments. Your fun may not be someone else's fun, and that's specially true in games that allow you to customize just about anything. Some people enjoy spending days and countless hours doing a specific chore and achieve a little bit of progress, and others enjoy seeing faster result and being able to do more. Take your pick.
