What is the best medium-sized dino?
Hi!

Can you please tell what medium-sized dino is the best in all the features such as dps, amount of hp, run speed, attack speed, turn speed, amount of energy that should be enough to fight and travel and etc. About medium-sized I mean the dinos not as big as Rex, Yutyrannus, Allosaurus and etc. I can't choose the best among such dinos as the Sabertooth, Direwolf, Thylacoleo, Direbear, maybe Carno o_O I don't specify here the Raptor and Terror bird, because I know they are very weak)

I'm just looking for a small and fast dino to quick and enjoyable ride around the island, which is able to easily kill all other dinos and at least tank and kill some alphas. I'm not interested in just his weight, because I'm looking for a fast and small killer, I'm not going to carry a lot of weight.

I know I can just open the wiki and read the damage of all dinos level 1, but this damage is not an indicator of the dps, because the dino may have more attack speed or other features, resulting in more dps (I mean something like Therizino double attack or Spino hight attack speed and etc)

Sorry for bad english and thank you very much for the help!

I doubt there's any answer but direbear here. Some might prefer thyla, but I don't think it has as much raw all around power as the bear.

I like baryonix with 200% speed, rest in melee damage.

Realy usefull from travelling on center, which is covered by water + fast eat farmer.

I liked my spino too, but 50% of them are dead by jelly fish :)

You cant choose because "best' is subjective. Different ones have different functions, are better/worse depending on maps, mods, settings, your interests/needs and much more. All in all its intended that there be not one "single" best but a few good ones depending on the aforementioned circumstances.

Personally i feel the allo is a medium dino. Fits through the standard dino gate and can be raised to do a lot. They move well too. I love the thylacoleo but i image most will recommend the direbear (i personally never had one).

Perhaps another consideration would be the therizino? Pretty brutal, great gatherer

Equus, Saber and wolf are great for getting around quickly and dealing some damage.

Equus can knock things out and its pretty fast too. it just feels natural to ride a horse around exploring on a map such as ragnarok or the center. but im gonna have to say for me, the best medium would be the Thyla. simply because it can climb over obsticals such as cliffsides and mountain sides. pretty handy dandy when you need a stam break/afk with out having to worry about land dinos for the most part. obviously climbing up or down in the wyvern trench with a thyla is just asking for a bad time.

Oh Direbear is the only one among the above, which I didn't try to tame, because I thought he was worse than the Saber and Thyla, because I read somewhere that Direbear has a very small running speed for short distances, and ''he is bad if you don't move through wastelands and open areas''. I like to walk a lot in the mountains and jungle and look for adventure. Sometimes they are not so good, for example, my 230 lvl Saber with 700% damage was killed by alpha Carno 60 and next max-level Saber was defeated by alpha Rex lvl 20, even though he had a purple mythical saddle =\, since then I was deeply disappointed in my cats and I thought about the question I asked here, but now I'll try to tame bear and test. Perhaps the bear will be my salvation :)

Thank you all vm!

Dire Bear gets pretty fast when he is at top Speed but Needs a Moment to reach that. Is strong, usually has good health too and carry the most of the list above.

All depends a bit on Definition too. Allosaurs is not a medium animal to you but a big one...for many others allosaurus is more a medium size animal.

If the fight is more important than the travel, probably the dire bear or a pack of animals (wolves+hyaenas maybe)

If you want to carry more, the bear.

I think the best for travel is the thyla. I had raised some and leveled their health to around 10k, then damage and a bit of Stamina ...was nice and could take on most, except ofc Alpha Rex.

Something to Keep in mind with all the animals you listed is: You can get grabbed of them by kaprosuchus, so avoid swamps.

TBH, i think you better with a Rex. is not small/medium but gives a rather carefree life.

P.S.: Very small, very good for travel, bad for most fights: the frog.

Theriz or bear.

is the megatherium a medium dino? if yes, best mount on land. annoying dinos leave it alone like microraptors etc, it can gather everything except stone metal and flint, has enormous carry weight, great hp, and if it has the bug killer buff, it can easily destroy alphas.
for water/land, baryonyx.

The Megatherium is nice. Easy chitin, pretty strong. However I think the best would be the tickle chicken (Therizinosaurus), though you might consider that too big. Anyway it can mass gather wood, thatch, chitin, hide, meat, berries, fiber, etc. It also has armor piercing attacks so if you go upagainst something with good armor you will do a hell of a lot of damage. It also has a different set of skill points. It has the regular kind that go into health, stamina, damage etc, then a second set that goes into delicate or power harvesting to make it an even better harvester.

There aren't all that many mid sized dinos that could solo alphas tbh, unless it's a really low level alpha. If you're looking to take alphas on you'd want something big.

However if you do want a mid sized dino, I'd have to echo the baryonyx or bear options. Bary is very manuverable, pretty fast, excellent in water and does decent damage with some levels in melee. Bear is much more bulky and less manuverable, and is very slow at first, but does get up to good speed over time and is much more tanky.

To add another point in the Barys favour; it can jump. Otherwise, I agree with Hermit that here aren't many medium sized creatures that can take on and defeat an alpha, especially not an alpha rex.

Actually, weight and gathering doesn't matter for me because I'm trying to find a killer who runs fast, I don't need a dino to gather resourses, because I have Therizino (top1 dino for me), Ankylo, Doedicurus, frog, Quetzal with 3000 weight and etc. But frog is not for battles, my frog has 650% damage and it literally takes forever before I kill someone.

I'm only interested in the dino, which can protect me (especially from the alpha) and fight some alphas to farm items, which move quickly, small in size (to easily move among trees and woods). But without some people help I couldn't make a choice, which dino I need to tame and level up, of course I don't want to kill 120 Alpha Rex with a medium dino, but Lord, this 40-60 alpha Carno, 120 alpha Raptors who killed my cats, it's just ridiculous. Just want to know for sure that my new dino will be the best in the medium-sized category and if I lose again, at least I will not blame myself that I spent so much time raising the levels to a weak useless dino.

Yes, I know the best choice is Rex, he's a killer force, but I'm uncomfortable to quickly travel and maneuver in the woods with it. So I'm trying to find out which of the mid-size dinos is the best killer :)

Kaprosuchus don't make any danger, it's just a free swamp taxi, they can pick you up and bring to the right place(or not) for free while your dino is resting, I kill them in a few seconds with the orange sword.

Thank you, I didn't even know what he was for. Now I will read about it.

Thank you. Yes, I know, when I'm purposefully going to kill big alpha, I can take Rex. But I wanted to be sure when I travel around the map on my mid-dino that I'll be safe, at least I can escape from a big level alpha Rex and Rex is much easier to see from afar and just walk past. But it's not so easy with Carno and Raptor. They run incredibly fast, faster than a cat. Sometimes when you run out of energy and you just can't run away \ jump away from them, you have to tank and fight, my Sabers was defeated in situations like this. But I'm sure that the mid-size dinos can farm Carno and Raptors. Now thanks to the forum, I know that I should tame a bear :)

Thyla, Bear, Theriz, in that order, imo.
