Is they a story and endgame for single player?

I curious if they a purpose other that sandbox and exploring for single player, is is they a story and and endgame objective to work towards?

There's no story no matter if you play SP or MP. The 'story' and endgame are the same thing: going through Ascension.

Ark does have a story, only it's presented under the form of explorer notes found around The Island map. Pretty interesting stuff actually.

The game does have lore. You can find out about the lore reading explorer notes. You beat the game when you defeat all three bosses and ascend off the ark as an alpha at level 115.

Thats true, but as far I could see on YT tek cave is kinda a joke with hundreds dinos thrown inside of it and they are all buddies waiting to kill players and tamed dinos which is lame IMO.

Basically the only way to beat it without a massive tribe is the cheesy one with hooks and chutes

Im fine with being hard but not the way they did, but also it seems tek cave nowdays is a place holder so we dont know whats really gonna be.

story goes like this....

Bob wakes up on a beach. He notices some kind of implant in his arm and scratches at it. Bob also notices that someone has proceeded to dress him in a loin clothe... this made Bob feel insecure. Bob walked along the beach and picked up a rock. Loud trumpets could be hear above as if he just achieved something great. Bob collects more rocks until he comes across a tree. Bob punches the tree not realizing he just needed to walk around it, but in the process of punching the tree he received some wood and thatch. More trumpets ranged above his head.
Bob stopped, looked in the sky and wondered what that noise was. Bob tied some of the rocks together with the thatch and wood.
"Look at me!" said Bob randomly swinging his new tool.
Then Bob felt funny.. Bob needed food. Bob noticed some berries on the ground and proceeded to gather them. Bob ate the red berries, the yellow berries, and the blue berries. They were all so delicious. He loved the bright colors of these berries. He had some left over berries that were white and black. Bob thought these were dull and probably not tasty. He tried the white berry and it was dry and sour, he run to the ocean and started to drink the water. But Bob was still hungry. He looked at the black berries and thought that they couldn't taste as bad as the white berries. Bob ate one to be safe..
"Oh my these are delicious!"
Bob ate as much black berries as he could.
"Deez berrii arr greeeaaat." said Bob as he stumbled along the beach. Bob noticed everything was getting darker and darker as he began to black out. The most he was able to do before falling on his face was to uncontrollably defecate in his loin cloth. Bob tried as much as he could to open his eyes, where he could slightly make out what looked like five dilos. Bob could hear a strange noise, and much of which was the sound of crunching bones and flesh. Trumpets did not sound over his head.... no.... Bob was dead.

See there was your start to finish for this game.

Basically trying to decide if the game is right for me, i do enjoy survival crafting games, but I prefer the ones with strong solo PvE, thats challenging but realistic solo, eg base attacks from AI.

And its also much more fun if they is a viable final goal to work towards that can be done solo.

I sounds to me like this is your kind of game. End goal is ascension. The story, or lore, is as stated above, all the explorer notes. Each one ads a bit of information about something in the game.

Apart from that the game (pve) becomes what you want it to be. Make and plan your own milestones or mini goals (egg/kibble farm, building, breeding you super dino's for boss fights and so on), all leading up the the end goal.

Now that certainly makes it more interesting, I have been playing the forest recently and really love the canible mechanics.

Its fun but does lack somewhat in stuff to craft and build.

Agreed Forest is a nice idea, but it lacks.
This mod though, I haven't tried it but people speak pretty highly of it. Look up some videos.

Rexs can fit in the tek cave. Take about three rexs with you. :)
