Best berry gatherer

I'm doubting between The bronto or the Chalicotherium , both have 5 stars for gathering , but i'm looking for a quick way to get narcotics

Brontos have been nerfed recently...they still get a lot of berries, but their attack box ends at their feet, so if they're on any kind of slope downwards they miss all the bushes completely.

Tbh I just use an ankylo to get berries. It's not as effective as some others, but it's reasonably fast moving compared to, say, a stego. And it means you don't have to maintain a separate berry gatherer - one less mouth to feed. You just might have to have one of your weight dinos following behind to transfer the berries over once in a while, since anky weight isn't the best.

Using a dedicated berry gatherer means having to feed it won't be a problem though, since they'll have so many other berries that they'll feed all their herbivores several times over and still throw away stacks of berries.

Long term, I'd say put in a number of crop plots for your narcotics needs. You'll have a more consistant, reliable supply. Gathering from bushes is too random and, comparatively, you'll get a fraction of narcoberries compared to everything else.

Bear - has a decent AoE with rightclick or can gather-on-move with leftclick attack, decent speed and more than decent weight limit. Can also fight in case of predators and can be quick healed with raw meat. Plus you get fiber.

Traditionally the bronto was best at gathering berries, but honestly when wildcard reduced the AoE size of the bronto's attacks, they also made the aoe stop at exactly it's height on the ground... so in any given aoe attack roughly 1/2 of the berry plants in your aoe will be an inch or more below the altitude of your bronto's feet, and therefore un-hit-able.

It also makes the bronto unable to defend itself against small attackers which attack it from a lowpoint in the terrain (like a troodon which is downhill from the bronto).

I posted in-depth feedback on the issue, detailing the problem in depth, but that never accomplishes anything.

So I can't recommend using a bronto anymore. I mean they're 'ok-ish', but nothing like they once were.

The best way to get narcotics at present, is to set up a greenhouse.
use the small crop plots for narcoberry plants (and a handful of medium ones for crops).
On official my XP-grind farm was a multitude of small crop plots of narcoberries in a greenhouse, half a dozen dung beetles, and a chemistry bench... the bench doesn't make any extra XP, and you'll end up with way more narcotic than you could ever use anyway, but it does process the nacro fast, so you can log in, load the chem bench, and afk while quickly grinding out the xp.

Load the chemistry bench with 10 stacks of spoiled meat (you'll need to grind meat routinely for spoiling), and the other 50 stacks fill with narcoberries. You will want the chemistry bench very near the narcoberry crop plots, as that is the heavy ingredient. Before quitting official, I had multiple chemistry benches and enough crop plots to fill all of them to 50 stacks (saving 10 stacks for spoiled meat) on each harvest. On a longer play session I could load the benches twice (once on log-in, and once before log-out).

But if you just need narcotic for taming, and you're not chem-bench level yet, just a dozen crop plots, some compost bins, and a handful of mortar & pestle, and you'll be good to go.

Incidentally, if you make a greenhouse, you can get the most cost effectiveness out of just making 20 greenhouse ceilings (covering a big 4x5 or 2x10 area) and making the walls and the rest out of stone. 20 pieces gets you to 300% effect, and a 20 foundation area is nice & big for farming in huge amounts. I'd go 2-high on the walls to give headroom. The crop plots can be as much as (i think 8?) walls below the greenhouse ceilings and still get the effect.

if you're not 45 yet... then you can't make a greenhouse... and farming is far less efficient without that. So up till 45 I'd use a dino to gather narcoberries. There's always a Trike. That's my go-to first tame. But from your question I got the impression you meant large-scale end-game narcoberry gather. Post lvl 45, i'd go with dung beetle as my top berry gather tame, along with a good greenhouse.

its just fast as fk and has crazy weight stat, my 280 chali is very happy to be my berry gatherer

Probably the second most efficient way: Theri, with all levels pumped into delicate. Or even mix power/delicate so you have a good all around gatherer so you dont have to have multiple different dinos for different gathering purposes Or you could just have two theri 1 del 1 pow.

Absolutely quickest way is: Trike, any trike. Even low level player can do it if its in a relatively safe area. Also trike can defend itself against smaller predators up to and including carno because of knockback.

If you can tame a theri - you probably dont need narcotics anymore. And greenhouse requires level 45 and time for crops to grow and ripe. Plus hassle with irrigation and fertilizer.

Then - bear. Speed and weight limit will give you the edge. Havent tried chalico, and theri is just OP if fully specced to gather the resource type one needs.
