Best survival game for offline/single player
I just had a few hours on Ark and i kinda enjoy it but it seems a grinder with no real main goal or storyline...Just to lvl up to make better bases and weapons...But tbh id rahter play other games than do tha...Not saying i didnt like it just as said id rather play other games.

What about 7d2d or the forest etc..these better to play alone?

I tried online and actually never saw anyone, but again whats the point of the game? there is really no point once u keep lvling up thats the point?>

Yep.
Gather that stuff and kill tholse dinos so you can level up...
so you can gather more stuff and kill more dinos...
rinse and repeat.

The game is more directed at multiplayer and tribe gameplay, admittedly. But single player is a sandbox environment, you make your own fun. With a bit of imagination you can set yourself challenges and go on epic quests with your dinos, and really explore and become immersed in the world. Write your own story ;)

Example, just today I flew all around looking for level 150 dinos to tame so I can replace the level 120's I got before the increased levels were possible. Later this week, the top level will be going up by 5 from 150 to 155, so I'll replace the ones I tamed today Yaaa!!!

What? It's 5 more levels that you can level up a tame, not the wild dino level cap. Lol

ye so in reality its like u are doing the same thing over and over again but it seems better as u getting more powerful things and killing more powerful badies but its same old, thats why i got bored of the division.

Oh wow ive got a lvl 30 gun that looks the same as the gun at lvl 1 but this one does 1000 more damage, it was so much fun grinding those repetitive missions to get this bad ass gun!! haha

So forest has a story and ending?

Subnautica also?

7d2d has more direction to it or not really?

The Forest has a story yeah. Honestly, survival games are about survival. that's why for somepeople they get repetitive. Try playing something other than a survival maybe?

Sandbox survivals don't usually have lots of direction. Some try to pull a story and add some lore. Subnautica is trying to draw a story (same with ARK) but ultimately you are grinding for upgrades and surviving. 7d2d same thing, just surviving zombies and getting better gear, building better structures, defending better.

Same in ARK. Tame all dinos, breed for better stats, get better gear, build bigger, get creative, use mods to get crazy or better functionality (for example, I couldn't live without the NPC mod, taming people is hilarious), etc.

Sandbox survivals all have that setting. Some stronger, some weaker. Some are grindier, others rely less on grinding or levels at all. When things get stale, sandbox relies on your imagination and creativity. If one lacks that, then these sort of games last very little for those type of people.

lol this was my first foray into it..my mate was banging on about it..hes been on it 24/7 for 2 weeks!! loving it!! so i thought id try, glad i didnt pay 40 for ps4 version.

I think if we had a group like minimum 3-4 people and done it together it would be fun cause u in it together, building bases together, going on journeys together..in fact i think that would be amazing!! and thats why he prob addicted to it as he plays with few others...

I dont get on with them though so wont play with them.

I dont think finding randoms to play with much fun either.

But yeh if u and a few mates were online together taking over the whole map and exploring together it would be great fun.

Playing alone, its not that its bad its just with so many games id rather play other ones

yeh i get u once i built my first house and finally a bed, I was like phew!! even if i die at least ill be back here having been killed about 20x and not able to find my old houses etc lol.

So that had a purpose.

But then once id done that i was like well what to i want to do now?

I got a safe resting place and a respawn point.

Felt like game over almost..of course much more to discover but the main needs where now met.

then i read online bullets and guns to costly and pointless so then that put a dampner on things to.

and if playing single player why build some amazing base as i wont even need it..

Everything just seemed pointless sadly,

just read up on forest doesnt seem to much of an ending or storyline same thing as ark, just trying to survive and build better base, explore etc..

Survival sandbox games are not for you then. That's the premise of them, if they are sandboxy, you need to have imagination, creativity, and enjoy not having purpose or objectives forced on you. If they are survival games, the main objective will always be to survive. These type of games are not for you, so you'd better find story line games instead of survival sandbox.

The best pure survival game I have played is The Long Dark. Nothing else to do except survive in a very hostile environment but playing it you will understand why Sandbox survival games have players with a lot more played time.

The Long Dark, as good as it is as a survival game gets boring as soon as you get on top of your resources because there is nothing left to do. It still gets my heart racing early game when I am inches from death which is why I like to play it from time to time.

Having said that, it is also an EA game and the main part of that game is story mode which isnt released yet.

Another good game is "this war of mine", can get it for $3 on sale and worth it. Again pure survival and that actually has an end if that's what you are looking for.

7D2D is similar to this game, player base typically has 1k+ hours played because it is basically get survival sorted and then sandbox with build a fancy base, PvP and loot stuff to upgrade your weapons.

Forest - Haven't played it in a while but it wasn't that great with very few things to craft and enemy AI pretty rubbish

Subnautica - Collect resources, build a base, survive.

I have a lot of games in this genre so I can keep going but you have to understand firstly that all games are pointless and secondly, these games are not really played for survival or story. The crafting and dino taming is the appeal of this game. Building fancy bases, taming high level dinos, breeding even higher level dinos, using all those resources and tames to PvP or kill the PvE bosses. Let your imagination run. My bases are always different, always trying new designs.

It feels like you are looking for an RPG survival game, which isn't going to happen at this stage, though like I said, The Long Dark are working on a story mode.
