Exploring Tips

I have been playing Ark for awhile now but always i strt building a base within an dhour of where i spawn. But now i want to try exploring maps before i decide to build a base. but i was wondering if anyone had any tips for me so that i can stay alive without dieing as often. Thanks for the help.

craft bola, tame a couple dodo, plant rockcarrot and then make some dodo kibble. Make tranq arrows, gather chitin or karatin and go tame yourself a Ptera. there's your start to exploring.

Make bolas, get tranq arrows, get a raptor. Explore down rivers and open areas so you don't get lost. If you know you're not going to get lost, go into some forests, you might find something you'll like. Like ruins, metal, or something like that.
Once you can, saddle up a better fast creature that can defend itself. Explore a lot more, but know your limits on where you can go.

EDIT: or get a flyer, but that's just if you want to cover land, using a land dino can show you what's actually around

Ptera is one way, but you have to wait until a higher level for that. I prefer getting a parasaur/trike as a mount, and an army of dilos for protection. Dilos are surprisingly strong in a group, and if things go downhill you can leave them to tank while you escape on the mount.

This is the hilarious truth to why the flyer nerf had to happen. Just THIS. Literally the only way to explore used to be a pteranodon because of how op they are. It's sad the devs did little to nothing to actually nerf them because all the 9 year old hitler clones freaked out :/

Yeah, that's my usual start. A trike as my mule and battle mount.

try the raft aproach:) i just started over and tryed the raft and i find it perfect. used this design but with thatch and wood for starters.
