Best known locations for a base with water dino pen access? (PVE)
Looking for new location for a base that should have metal nodes not too far and access to water pen. Ideas? Screenshots?

By 'not too far' are we talking Quetz flying distance or Anky walking distance? And Center or Island?

on the island, go north of hidden lake, there is a bluff, build to the left of it and its a great pen for water tames. obi mountian is a short quetz fly away for metal and obisidan with crystal mountian there as well

Would help if we knew what map you were on. Building on the coast/river near any of the mountains on The Island is probs best.

FOr the Center there are lots of good places. My current base is on the cliffs above the lagoon on Topical Island north, with an elevator leading down to the water. I've also built on the small island directly across from Skull Island. Really it's hard NOT to have good access to everything on The Center.

On the island my favorite spot is ~53,15. You're close enough to the volcano to fly over and mine/smelt, and you're just under the snow biome where there are lots of rich metal spots as well as pearls in the shallows. You're also close to the swamps for cement paste.

There's a shelf in the water that is just deep enough to make a water pen without having to spend tons of resources to go from the floor up.

Here's a shot of the spot with a partially constructed base and pen back when I was building my base...

Another bonus of that spot is that the Caverns of Lost Faith is right off the shelf down at the sea floor, so it's a short trip with your water dinos.

I've now got a bunch of water dinos in there. Mated pair of megalodons, a basilosaurus, etc. and there is still lots of room.

Herbivore Island is built round a natural water pen.

the best location with water very close are the underwater doms. they have rich metalnotes too.
another good location is the northwest of lavaisland. its a very flat area and easy to handle for huge structures.
jungle north and south got good metalnodes. you can just take a part of the beach.
when you are well prepared for the elements xD you can use the beach next to the northern snowy mointain. there are flat places in the water. you can place behemoths to protect your fishes very easily. after a few meters it goes straight down to the deep sea. also a nice add.

North shore of the north east river, on the inlet overlooking Carno Island (just south of the hidden lake). There's a large flat beach there which can support quite a big base, you have Farr's Peak just over the river for metal and other resources, and it's just up the river inland to get to the center of the island and other important locations like the volcano and chitin cave. And the inlet there is very deep, so you can wall off the enitre river and use it as a giant water pen. Worked well for me and a friend of mine on one of our games.

Also built here my last base - fantastic location although not a good place for fresh chars.

On the Island I love the area in the West at the waterfalls. On the cliff you can build and you are also at the ocean. The Blue Obelisk with metal is close by and also the Volcano is not far.

Southern Islets region: there is a tiny island at the mouth of a river before it empties into the ocean(just north of the stony peninsula). The waters just south of it can house water dinos(just south of the tiny rock there). The island can be walled off and with walls intot he water for your dino pens(squid has to be walls off in the deeper shelf just south of the tiny rock only).

Beaver dams, metal nodes(about 8 nodes on the small mountain north/northeast of the island in a short walking distance), oil nodes on the deeper shelves just off the coast there, pearls and oil nodes in a cave not too far underwater to the south east, and more.

Early game before you set your base up, the elbow shaped rock on the tiny island can be climbed up(and dino's parked up on) without fear of most dinos climing up to attack. There is also a small hole from the top leading to a crawl space (jump down in to then crawl to) for added protection if need be.

Only things requiring more time to get to are crystal(mountain to the west along the coast) or obsidian in the north. Carnos and raptors(occasional alphas) are the most dangerous things that typically can roam down your way but if you travel north up the river you can encoutner rex and spino's to its northeast river tributary.
