1.4 Malaria in Scandinavia
I don't know how this happened, but there's a swatch of endemic malaria all over Scandinavia, chiefly in Finland.

It seems to be everywhere, I am getting it here in italy before 1400. It has already wiped out all my levies during two wars. It's pretty silly.
Uhm, to my great surprise after looking it up a bit. There's been malaria problems in Europe as early as the bronze age. I'm a bit shocked lol

In the mediterrania maybe but certainly not in scandinavia. It's still silly as for some reason it leaves alone your civlian population. The mosquitos only bite your armies. At least for me that is.

That is a man-made biochemical weapon.

Malaria is endemic to Finland, which is a swampy country with abundant water and short but warm summers.

More "we think so because it is documented to happen in the 18th hundreds till the mid 20th hundreds"

Doesn't explain why it leaves your population alone unless they go to war. My guess is it's because it would be broken and everyone would just die and you'd have 0 pop by 1350 on the entire planet :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

EDIT: Well apparently it does there are some malaria outbreaks regularly it seems but instead of killing 29 of 30 it kills way less. No idea what the balancing reason here is that it destroys your entire army but locations are relatively fine compared to it.

Yeah, this is a problem in game
Europe had endemic malaria anywhere there were swamps. Doesn't really matter how cold the winters were, just matters if the summer was warm enough for skeeters. You have to be *very* far north for that to apply. In most big places Victorian era swamp draining wiped it out, in the rest spraying for mosquitos and other anti-malarial work did for it. Yellow fever used to be endemic too, as did a number of other disease we now consider tropical.

Malaria only exists in poor tropical countries today because the governments of those countries are run by people who prefer to steal the money that could wipe it out rather than actually doing the work. The playbook is extremely robust and well developed and it isn't that expensive to do, just needs the state capacity to execute it.
