Did economy just get 10x harder? I can't manage to even break even with castille and by 1390 I'm already bankrupt and that's despite being very dilligent with expenses and building only in high control areas

Bro the same is happening to me...around 1390 i go bankrupt...i played this game for 1200 hours economy was never the problem.
I did several runs and always the same happens...

Frustrating. Uninstalled.
Maybe you have continued the save from other version of beta? Yes it will bkoke your economy.

I've played Vyatka in last patch (from the start) and it seems easier to get money, than before. On hardest mode indeed.
tried a new run with castille, yeah after civil war you can go bankrupt but if you can build up a decent economy before the plague, it can prevail. oh and i tried a run with automated building, there i could earn 200 around the 14xxs. Seems like its also a gamble which trades you can do and what buffs triggers during the reigns.
It definitely seems more difficult, yes.
I tried it again last night and was OK actually, but I'm finding it harder which is better than too easy and print money
Did you delete your starting forts, move capital to Sevilla, build 2 governors in Valladolid and Toledo, build baillifs on valuable RGO's, max out silver tile max out jewelry on Sevilla with jewelry urban right and you'll have 200 balance in no time... Spain is literally one of the easiest nations to make money on you got all the RGOs & Pops u need
need to post your econ balance. keep an eye on food. food was too easy before, but now i think armies pull down the entire market and can ruin your economy if you are buying from the market. so check food expenses.
