Theories of why they’re delisting this game + the Dreamcast collection
1. They’re delisting all these games to make way for a brand new Genesis and Dreamcast collection.

2. There’s some licensing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ which is forcing them to take down these games

3. Perhaps prioritising the Genesis app on NSO? (Very unlikely but still)

4. SEGA is just being stupid asshats.

Most probably Number 1.

I wouldn't be surprised if licensing might have something to do with Jet Set Radio, but what I think they might try to do is sell these games in a way where you can't buy them separately, are recompilations over emulation, and implement Denuvo just to further push their luck with fans.
Highly likely it's no.1

2; I don't think so I don't think there is any licensing issues unlike the Sonic 3/Michael Jackson licensing. There is the band "Dreams Come True" who composed Sonic 1 and 2's ost but I doubt that's the case.

3; I have the MegaGenesis App on NSO it's alright but I only use the JP version just to see the differences.

4; 1billion percent likely they are asshats with alien antennas sticking out the booty crack of those ass-hats.

Sega and their family companies have been focusing on alot of remakes, remasters, new entries for mainline games.

Wonderboy got alot of it's time in the special treatment sun.

Jet Set Radio fanbase (myself included) even the original composer got sick and tired of Sega's ♥♥♥♥ and made Bombrush Cyberfunk and that game is freaking fantastic af.

Shining Force 90s era has gotten a bit of a resurgence due to nostalgic fans, people who want to get into tactical rpgs that isn't fire emblem ( I love FE btw), also sega for some silly reason hired a korean company to do a mobile gacha tactical rpg entry that has all characters, events from Shining Force 1,2, CD/Gaiden. Which went didn't come through because of some corporate bumbling nonsense and now sega has to sell the game to another company X_X when really people just want a new entry from the 90s era shining force or just remakes of SF1 and SF2.

I hate it any company removes their collections when really they should do some social media advertisements to get people to buy them even if it's a little.

If they must add a new "Collection" then they should make a retro Shin Megami Tensei collection or SMT IF with Persona 1 n 2.

in order
1) Them making a remaster would be the more likely case. If they were doing a larger collection they'd just add more to it instead of removing it entirely.

2) Licensing issues make no sense since they own the IP for everything in the collection as they are their games.

3) There's no reason they'd axe the collection just for NSO. Nintendo would have to shell out a lot for that kind of licensing. And lets be real here, they wouldn't pay that sorta cost.

4) Maybe, but they're a company so profits are more important than being a ♥♥♥♥ to them. Though that said they did completely ♥♥♥♥ up PSO2 for no reason. As they say, don't attribute malice to what can easily be stupidity.

Nintendo has loads of money to influence contracts. If Sega were to get any exclusive contract it could be a means to influence more purchases of the aging Nintendo Switch, though the slowdown in sales of the Switch are likely because people are holding out for the successor system, either to purchase an upgraded system or to purchase a Switch for cheap.

Yeah they have tons of money but even they aren't stupid like Epic and just throw money around all willynilly. As much as I like Phantasy Star I doubt even Nintendo would splurge on paying for the Genesis collection just to nab the three or four games worth a damn on the collection. A remastered collection is the most logical option. Probably Sega has been working on it ever since they saw how much Final Fantasy's Pixel Remasters went. Couple that with how badly PSO2:NGS went they're probably looking for a free lunch and remastering a bunch of old IPs with most AI-upscaled graphics and a few QoL tweaks is an easy soluction if I had to make a guess.

Perhaps a big part of the NSO app is that you don't need an extra app just to play Genesis games, though "Mature" games do have to have a separate app to implement the system's parental controls.

1.

It just makes sense. Especially since the Dreamcast never had a proper collection. Might as well put these games in, as well as some more

So all these games will get back added on Steam right guys?

I wanna say yes but SEGA's been dead silent on their exact reasoning on why they are delisting these games so who knows

Honestly this collection is kinda crap emulation-wise anyways, the whole 3D room thing was annoying, the configuration and navigation stuff was horrendous, the stand alone version of the emulator is even worse.

These games deserve better. Get M2 to do these games justice.

That was the biggest mess up by Sega in ages. That game looked awesome but it was stuck on mobile. Then because they couldn't pay for the IP licence they had to stop making it instead of...y'know...Sega funding the game themselves? :steamfacepalm:
