I think to prefer the gameplay of type 0 that is more action involved as you said
And you have many different characters to play which is an heavy plus
Action Rpg>>>Turn based Gameplay
In fact, if I could alter history, I'd make it so that Type-0 was the main entry and not a spin-off, with XIII being the spin-off. LOL. I just think Type-0 could have been a HUGE success if it had the same kind of quality as XIII. By quality, I'm pertaining to the development budget. And of course, make it a then current-gen game, and not a handheld console game, just to fully realize the project's potential.
So at the end they have pretty similar systems you just dont see the Timebar in FF-0 ;)
This. However, for me, Type-0 is by far the better game than any of those 13 games. I would say after Type-0 comes Lightning Returns, which feels like a mix of FF13 and Type-0 (Paradigmen shifts, or rather Cosplay shift paired with kinda responsive battle and skill customization which head towards Type-0)
That people can even enjoy any of the FF13 games is mind boggling to me unless it's their first JRPG or they are absolutely insane fanboys
1.Better Story
2.Replayablity
3.Fast Paced RPG
4.Better Soundtrack
5.Less cutscenes more gameplay
13 = ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hall simulator and too much cutscenes
13 - 2 = ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ plot ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sake? Seriously? too short no replayablity same like the 1st
13 - 3 = Franchiese milking ,using arpg , dead after few months released.
FF13 definitly isn´t as bad as people do and it doesnt have new game+ but you can just play more after the story ended and fight even stronger enemys (if you really want).
What can be truly compared probably are graphics and sound aspects. Perhaps due to FF XIII much more futuristic graphic theme and since type-0 by the very root is from PSP port (even PSP to PS4), I would say that part got FF XIII in better position.
For musics, Type-0 has more varied BGM compared to the monotone FF XIII battle BGM -which better at the start but seriously gets boring after awhile-. VA stuffs, I enjoyed FF XIII a little tad better.
in short: Like post above and I said in my first line. These two ain't to be compared.
Type 0's gameplay is more like Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts wherein you need to block, dodge some enemy's attacks to be able to defeat them. The story is dark compared to FFXIII as more plot twists will be revealed as you start over a new game. The soundtrack of this game is good as it is common to all FF games.
FFXIII series (though I haven't played LR yet) gameplay is very unique to other JRPG's. The gameplay requires strategy and timing as you will need to change paradigms frequently. I enjoyed the story in XIII-2 more than in XIII as they introduced a character with a good background. XIII-2 soundtrack is also good. I think that the only thing that will push you to play FFXIII is the story.
I've chosen Type 0 because of its great replay value and the gameplay. Type 0 also brings back the 'Overworld' or 'World Map' feels which is present in FF 1-9. But when comparing the game soundtracks I think I would choose XIII series as the better one (specially XIII-2's soundtracks). Both are great but for me Type 0 is the winner here.
XIII. Because XIII is the best FF to me. I just generally prefer XIII's battle system to Type-0 because it feels "fresher" than Type-0. Type-0's ARPG is certainly nice and fun to play, but I prefer hatching strategies, queue-ing the weirdest attacks and whatnot in XIII to fight out the most bizarre of fights. That isn't to say that Type-0 is void of strategy too, as it certainly has it's share. I would argue that knowing when Kill sights occur are more or less equivalent to knowing attack patterns etc in a turn based game.
However, I'm an odd ball, and I have a reverse list from almost every FF player over here on which FF's they like the most. The XIII trilogy are the entries that I like the most in all of Final Fantasy, and while I greatly enjoyed Type-0 before (and will finish the HD version really soon as I just finished my exams yesterday), it can't ever match up to the XIII trilogy to me.
