The other thing that's tough is how absurd the difficulty spike is when you hit the monkeys. The game started off at a good difficulty, not too easy not too hard, and then all of a sudden they drop ♥♥♥♥ tons of those stun-locking little bastards all over the place without a corresponding increase in healing items. From the monkeys to the church bat there are exactly two green herbs (but only one corresponding red herb and you find it quite a bit later) plus one healing spray. That's for the whole chase sequence to save Rebecca, the basement with the monkeys, the water door area with the three or four Mimicry Marcuses, etc. I had to go through some of those areas multiple times too because I stashed Rebecca somewhere safe and then realized I needed her with Billy to do a puzzle.
If I had played this game before I would have known when the bosses were coming, which rooms I can ignore, which order to do things so as to minimize trips through enemy-infested hallways, etc. But nope, I don't have that luxury... And then at the end of this brutal sequence they put a save point like that *inside* the church and with no healing items around. What if I hadn't thought to move most of my guns and ammo into Billy's inventory when I went into the church? I could have been stuck in there with just a handgun and been even more screwed than I already am.
Probably going to use a trainer for this boss tbh XD it's just not worth it to me to restart over this. I had only been saving in one slot specifically because I knew I didn't have the patience to go back and redo stuff, so it's pretty much my only option.
You wouldn't be screwed. You still leave the church at any moment. Even when the bat is around.
You could still go out, gear/heal up and get back in. It would even throw you back since the bat would not heal up for the time you went out.
You sure you have everything picked up? Some of the herbs can be overlooked quit easy.
Also if you fight the bat, stay as close as possible to the door that leads to the back room with the typewriter. The bat cant grab you there.
Grenades can work wonders against it at that position. With a little luck you stunlock it there. (IF you have some Grenades left in Rebecca inventory)
If not, use the pistol and abuse the auto aim.
IF you ever touch the game again, you can cheese yourself through most of the rescue part. Just send Billy to boiler room BEFORE you solve the puzzle with Becks.
The water door part....well, there are three Mimicry. One right after the door : Kill him.
The second in the observation room. Ignore him. Rush in, grab the handle on rush out. Abuse his metamorphose time.
The third one only spawns, if you went for the old lab. There are some goodies in the but nothing you need for progress, so you can technically skip him.
