How do you defeat the Church Bat?

I'm playing on normal and I can't figure out how you're supposed to beat the big bat in the church.

Here are the different approaches and why they won't work:

• Molotovs: Your character will throw them at the ground even if you aim up, and the bat comes down at you from an angle that makes it impossible to hit it 99% of the times.
  
• Pistol: Works until it spawns small bats, in which case your autoaim will focus on the small bats instead of the boss.
  
• Shotgun: Works until it spawns small bats, in which case your autoaim will focus on the small bats instead of the boss.
  
• Grenade launcher: Works until it spawns small bats, in which case your autoaim will focus on the small bats instead of the boss.
  
• Trying to shoot down the small bats in order to allow you to focus on the boss is impossible, because the bats will hit you inbetween every single shot due to your character being slow.
  
• Turning off autoaim is not an option either because autoaim is the only thing that will allow your character to turn to face the enemy quickly enough. Without it, the boss (or bats) will escape your aim in a split second, and if you were to wait for your target to line up with your aim the small bats would get enough time to chip away at your health until you're dead.

Does anyone know how to beat this boss?

The Infected Bat will fly around in circles, and at some point it will fly straight towards you and try to attack/grab you. That's your chance to shoot it with the Shotgun or the Grenade Launcher, the large damage amount will cause it to flinch, and stop it's attack. Try to ignore the small bats, don't rely on auto aim, rather try to aim by yourself and make sure you look upwards.

Also don't run around, try to stay either in front of the altar or the door that leads outside, so you can only get attacked from one side.

That doesn't work though, because if I just stand and wait for the big bat to get close so I can blast it with autoaim disabled, the small bats will chip away at my health until I'm down from 100% to 0. Also, the characters turn and move extremely slow, so I wouldn't be able to run around and evade them either.

The Bat will attack about every 10 to 15 seconds, I did it with the Shotgun only. And you use Billy, right? He has much more health than Rebecca.

Some difficulty.. you shot the ♥♥♥♥ out of him.


I had the Shotgun on me but Rebecca had the (or billy depends on who you used) grenade launcher you can exit the church and get it.. but i think the health of the bat restarts

Okay, it finally worked by sheer luck. For anyone reading, here's how the battle went down:

• Started out with 100% health, full shotgun and full grenade launcher with acid rounds.
  
• When the fight started, ran to a corner but didn't even get a chance to turn around before the bat lifted me up and dropped me.
  
• Aimed up at the bat (without autoaim) and tried firing acid rounds at it when it tried to swoop down and attack me.
  
• When the small bats appeared I switched to shotgun and tried aiming at the boss. It was extremely hard since the small bats attacked me literally every 4-5 seconds.
  
• When the boss came down, I tried my best to fire the shotgun at it. Most of the time it'd take down the swarm of bats in front of the boss instead of the hitting the boss.
  
• After getting around 2 shotgun blasts in, the boss finally died. I was near-death myself though.
