Yep, it can happen. It is the scariest part of the game, since it can isntakill you any time.

You can survive that attack somehow. I don't know if it's based on your remaining health, button mashing, or if it's just luck though.

In my experience on both the GameCube and the PC versions, the Lurker is both the easiest and hardest enemy in the game. If you're fast enough, you can pull a quick-draw and blast its face off, killing it. If you get grabbed, your AI partner can then shoot it, and the Lurker will let you go. But if your AI partner doesn't shoot, you're doomed to an instant death.

I remember a recent speedrun within the last year; no saves, no healing items. I made it all the way to the end of the game, and as I was running for the door to the final boss, the Lurker showed up and ate me, sending me all the way back to the main menu where I had to start the entire game from the beginning all over again.

God, I love this game.

God, I love this game.

I am overplaying my reactions, but it def was annoying, those 2 times it ate me. 3rd time I just prefired as I got down, stunlocked it and killed it. It takes like 3 shots, but damn, lost around ~30-40 min of my life with that frog. Annoying to say the least.

Like I said, simultaneously the easiest and hardest enemy in the game. If you know what you're doing and stay calm, you can completely subjugate this thin before it can even pose a threat, but if you get caught off-guard, it will end you in one attack. The worst thing that can happen is getting killed by it while trying to speedrun the game, and so you never stop to save, losing all progress, and being sent back to square one.
