First time playing RE game. Can someone explain me a bit better how to play this properly?

This is my first Resident Evil game, I want to see if I like franchise. I have some controller(some controller that looks like those ps2 controllers, cause I like those the most). So I get how to play with one character, what I don't get is except finding button to switch to partner, and to exchange items, what else should I know about operating team. Also I started this on hard, cause I like to play games on hard, but I guess this was bad idea, since save is limited, so I am not sure how fun is to play it on hard for the first time. Are there more ink ribbons on normal? Any tips would be helpful, thanks. I've reached part where I fighted some slime monster, and Billy shoot him, and now we are team, and I stopped there.

You would probably be fine with playing RE0 after RE1, and before RE2 & 3. Playing things in release order is not super important with the RE series (it's far more important in say Metal Gear, where playing them in chronological order just creates a mess), but yeah, 0 goes after 1 in the RE series, if for no other reason the fact that some events will make less sense unless you're at least familiar with what's going on in RE1.

keep in mind too, that this is probably the hardest traditional RE game, and...its really hard on hard. Normal is the way to go if you aren't familiar with the series, maybe even easy.

Nah, Code: Veronica X is more difficult than this. They did not even dare to activate its hard mode on any port, since the normal version has proven to be tough enough. Many players had their fair share of nightmares about the plane Tyrant fight in the past almost two decades.

I found 0 to be much harder. Code Veronica is the second hardest though. The plane Tyrant is a cheap shot but I was able to do it with an empty inventory and just relying on the machine computer
