First time playing RE game. Can someone explain me a bit better how to play this properly?
This is my first Resident Evil game, I want to see if I like franchise. I have some controller(some controller that looks like those ps2 controllers, cause I like those the most). So I get how to play with one character, what I don't get is except finding button to switch to partner, and to exchange items, what else should I know about operating team. Also I started this on hard, cause I like to play games on hard, but I guess this was bad idea, since save is limited, so I am not sure how fun is to play it on hard for the first time. Are there more ink ribbons on normal? Any tips would be helpful, thanks. I've reached part where I fighted some slime monster, and Billy shoot him, and now we are team, and I stopped there.

It's been a while that I don't remember the buttons mapping anymore, but it's hard to miss the button for switching partner, just press each buttons until you find out the right one. You can switch the partner and exchange items in inventory screen too. If you still can't find the button, check the controller mapping options and reset it to default. Another possibility is your controller is not compatible with the game. I played with xbox controller and it works fine. Actually it's better to start with RE1 first, the RE0 story was designed for people who had played RE1. Also RE0 is more harder than RE1 remake (from what I heard, I haven't played RE1 remake though), so RE1 is better for a starter.

For other controllers, do 'Controller Configuration' first. In-game player manual pretty explains everything.

If you are not afraid of learning by dying and replaying, its more fun playing hard.
You get much better feel of resource available and build good habits from start.
- there are enough save ribbons on hard, as long as you only save after long section of puzzles or before boss fights. During replay you know which part is more challenging to you.
- even on normal, there isn't enough ammo for every monster.
Dodge around 50% of monsters. Only kill those in the way. Its okay to kill a few monsters in a crowded room. Exit the room to reset monster position.
- you run faster when unarmed, or with knife. So unequip the shotgun/grenade launcher if you don't intend to fight. Menu pauses the game.

First and foremost: If this is your first Resident Evil game, then stop playing it right now, get Resident Evil 1 HD remaster, and play that instead.
RE0 is meant for those who liked RE1HD and want more. Its storytelling downright assumes that you are very familiar with the RE1 events, to boot.

Second: Think of this game as an exploration game with some monsters as a form of tension and gameplay. You have to find key items and the places to use them at. The challenge is in managing the inventory, as both characters need a weapon and ammo, maybe healing, but also be able to lug around key items.
If you think about it as a zombie shooter, you already lost.

Third: Combat is meant to be there to make the events feel more… tangible. On your first run, you cannot kill everything. You have to learn how to avoid enemies, to get your stuff and bolt out before they hurt you.

Fourth: RE0 has a unique buddy team mechanic, where you often have to split up and handle two character at the same time to be able to open the route to progress. Don't be afraid to separate the team, many puzzles rely on that. Just don't forget that the game goes in real-time, so if you leave someone in a zombie-infested room, the AI will try to survive, but can be killed easily.

Fifth: Seriously, stop this right now and play RE1 first.

Thanks too, will keep that in mind.

In both RE0 & 1 you do get enough resources that you don't need to be super stingy with them. If an enemy is causing you issues, don't be afraid of shooting them. First time I beat RE 0 on the GC, I was swimming in resources towards the end, as I had been overly frugal.
If you're playing the games on normal, then neither RE 0 nor 1 are particularly hard, so don't worry too much about it.

You should not start with 0 first. It can leave a pretty bad impression of the series. Start with 1 Remake, then 2 Remake, and then 4. Those would be the series highlights.

Okay thanks, when I get the game then.

First time is always harder especially when you play it blindly (without following a walkthrough, that is). For example, you need to use the right weapon on the right target, to do that, you need to carry the right weapon when you meet the enemy. Sadly, you don't know if you play it for the first time. And certain item is used to solve multiple puzzles so you need to carry it or go back to fetch it.
Depending on your luck, you may find this game too frustrating to play, or just as hard as RE1/2/3.

Edit*
Oh, and you need to control two characters in this game, so the difficulty also varies depending on how you control them.

I am just not sure why would I play RE:1 first, when this is first game story wise. I mean I want to play them in chronological order.

0 makes you control 2 characters at the same time and it has plot details from later games that they expect you to know. 0 is also much more difficult compared to the others. Always play in release order to understand stories. I dont know any story where knowing the prequel first was ever a good thing.

Maybe there are spoilers if you play this before RE1. For example, you know who the bad guy is from the start if you have played this game. Not a big deal but still.

Ninja'ed lol

And specific parts from 2 are referenced (not going to say what because of spoilers).

Oh makes sense. Yeah I guess I will play them in order they were released.

Then you are already on the wrong track, strictly speaking, since the initial segments of Umbrella Chronicles are the earliest story-wise, and this is not counting the Wesker's Report "game". :hexhappy:

RE0 is a prequel, and like most prequels, it is meant to be played after what it is a prequel of. The game in its storytelling assumes you already know what happened in the mansion incident (and, to a degree, what happened in RE2 and in Outbreak 1, despite both of them happening months after this game).

Also, do not fret too much about the story order. Play the games in release order, your playing experience will be a lot better.
