Possible to beat the final boss with this loadout?
Hello! I've been doing a run on hard mode, and I just keep running out of bullets on the final boss (after you take the slanted elevator).

I have:

15 shotgun shells
51 handgun bullets
6 regular grenade rounds
2 first aid sprays
1 red+green herb mix.

I don't know if I'm wasting too much ammo on the "distraction phase" part of the final fight, or if I just don't have enough ammo in general. If it's the latter I might be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because the only other ammo around is maybe one molotov at an earlier save.

Any tips/ideas?

I haven't yet completed hard mode, but I believe you got enough ammo for the battle. It is just a distraction, there's no need to unload everything you got at the boss right away.

Usually when I get to the distraction phase though, I only have 7-8 shotgun shells left and approximately 10 handgun bullets. It seems like it takes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of initial damage (and ammo) in order to get her attention away from Rebecca though.

Hmm, then the fight would get more difficult... Maybe all you could do is try knifing it after spending all of your bullets. I know, really complicated strategy...

...I completely forgot that knives even existed haha. I left both of them in the very beginning where you wake up when the train crashes. I guess if it comes down to it, I can backtrack all the way there and grab one for Billy.

You can get to the train, I guess it's the level 1 or 2 on the elevator.

You don't need to continuously shoot it, just make sure that whenever it turns to Rebecca, you attract its attention again. Then you do the same as the las Nemesis fight required in RE3: run around and try to not get hit. On hard mode, it was more of a question of keeping myself healed than ammo stocks.

If you really need some pointers, this is how one of the hard mode speedruns did it with only a handful of shotgun shells left:

You can do it, just don't spam bullets when the second phase of the fight starts, when you see he's going after Rebecca fire some shots to distract him until you see he switches attention towards Billy, then just run while leading them as far from Rebecca as you can. Repeat the process.

If still not working, you could try checking your map to see if there's any ammo you left behind and where, then you can take the "magic" elevator and go back to previous areas to collect them, but plan your route because new enemies will spawn in some areas.

Well ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guys, I did it with that loadout. When the final cinematic played, I had 0 healing items left and only two shotgun shells lol. Thanks for all the tips and advice!

Surprisingly, I got a rank B despite dying...A LOT. Thanks again! Definitely one of the hardest of all the classic Resident Evils. I think what saved my life in the end was I discovered that the queen gets quite a bit confused when characters are on the stairs to the platforms. Allowed me to empty my handgun completely on her without taking too much damage. Then once I got to the distraction part of the fight, I had 10 shotgun shells with me. Took about 2 shells to get her attention each time Rebecca opened a lock.

Very good. I thought that saving "too much" would lower down your rank.

Nah, rank only depends on game time here. You can save and use as many sprays as you want.

Hmm, good to know, thanks.

It seems you defeated the boss. Yeah you don't have to shoot it all the time, just lure it away from Rebecca.

I've had ammo troubles too with the Queen Leech more than once. It's nice that this game can really punish you at the final boss if you didn't take enough care with ammo conservation through the game, unlike some other REs where you can just rush and run in circles waiting for someone else to throw you a rocket launcher.
talgaby Nov 27, 2016 @ 11:18pm
Uhm, you can run around in this one as well. If you can somehow get the pattern, you can endlessly knife its buttocks, locking its aggression to Billy. (Granted, it is not exactly easy to pull off.)
Lanzagranadas Nov 28, 2016 @ 9:43am
Sure, you could beat the whole game with the knife as well, but you still must fight, and need to either be a knife pro or somehow cheat the battle (still praying your AI partner doesn't get into troubles), it's not like in RE or RE4 where you can simply run through the final boss with a bunch of healing items because actually the only thing you need to kill it is a rocket launcher that somebody will throw to you.
