Can you bleed anything?
I upped a Morning Star to +10, now it has Bleed of 120.

Yet it doesn't ever make anything bleed. Some mobs (like giant pigs) survive 5 hits, yet don't take bleed damage from this. On the other hand, 4 poison arrows still poison pretty much anything in this game, allowing you to cheese through most content.

Is this a pure PVP thing?

alot of pve things can be bled, not everything.
It tends to take me 2 whips, around 3 attacks to bleed something but sometimes its just 2

I should note my 2 whips hit around 300+ bleed dmg each

I've used unupgraded morning star against Old Dragonslayer and bled him two or three times during the fight.

You need to build up like 1000 bleed damage for it to proc, and in PvE the only effect is hp damage - most bosses and enemies don't have stamina per se.

1000 damage? So I need to hit 9 times or more for the effect to go off?

It does 200 bleed dmg, cuts there stamina bar, and cause them to walk slower.

The move speed slow does effect monsters and some bosses. Effects last around 8 seconds where at that point you can bleed them again

It is underwelming in both PvP and PvE. You can do it if you build specific weapons just for the effect, and it can hurt, but usually more trouble then its worth.

well yeah you need 1000 bleed to well..bleed something so if you have 300 bleed damage thats 30% of the bar up..then all resits etc go in and the 300 you had gets reduced

just fought Jester Thomas in Dragon thingything, I managed to stick to him, so I scored 15 consecutive hits with 120 bleed morning star on him

Not once did I trigger a bleed. This is some bull right there.

The Bleed Bar also slowly depletes by itself if you don't hit the target. Plus only 120 bleed.

well that means you needed about..10 hits in a row and that is if you count out resitance AND the fact the meter goes down ..at a medium pace..so really no its fully logical that you did not get bleed
Quineloe Apr 20, 2015 @ 7:54pm
Yeah, when 4 poison arrows are enough to poison dragons in the game, some guy wearing a set that gives no noteworthy bleed-protection should be completely immune to bleeding, that sounds logical.

120 isn't a lot, you could try infusing it with bleed
Bleed also scales with DEX

Yea you need your build COMPLETELY centered around bleed for it to work properly and be a true asset rather than a novelty. I had a character in vanilla DS2 (haven't gotten around to making them again here) that was completely centered around bleed and it can be a huge help when used right.

If you want to do a pure bleed build you will need the crest of blood from the Brotherhood of Blood, Shadow Gauntlets dropped from the shadow assassins, at least 40 DEX and a few points in faith (for some reason bleed gets a bonus from faith) and a weapon or set of weapons that has very high bleed buildup and physical damage. It can DESTROY people because of the slows and stamina reduction and the bonus damage is nice, and while they're slowed you can keep on whaling on em.

All of that said, bleed could use a buff I feel. Its nowhere near the ridiculousness that was DS1 bleed (30% max health gone on proc and all the weapons with bleed were VERY strong, it was very much OP in the first game) but they pushed it too far in the other direction. Its helpful when used in a build designed to maximise it, but its very difficult to do right.

Pretty much this while infusing your weapon with a Bleed Stone
Sammich Apr 20, 2015 @ 8:19pm
Bleed just simply isn't worth it in this game. Just consider it a bonus if your weapon has it. Also poison arrow build up are much easier to build up because when you're shooting those arrows, you're shooting them consecutively one after another.

Imo if you're looking for a status effect build, go for poison. Only thing wrong with it is that some monsters are immune and pvp players can green moss it.

Last thing, if you're dead set on bleeding something, do it right. Pick a weapon with innate bleeding(either a fast weapon or one with high bleed damage), then infuse it with bleed stone, now equip both the Crest of Blood and Shadow Gauntlet.

you cant infuse bleed weapons with bleed. Yes, 120 isn't as big as +10 weapons infused with bleed, but I'm pretty sure with 140 bleed I would not have triggered bleed within a reasonable amount of hits, either.

Sammich, where's the bonus when it never ever triggers? Like I said, I scored consecutive hits on Jester Thomas just as fast as if I had fired arrows.

Just seems silly that getting poison on your enemies is so trivial, but getting them to bleed requires the entire character built around it. Oh well, FPS durablity bug
