Heide's Tower Of Flame - how not to die?
What level should I be for this area? And what weapons/armour work best for those big sword + shield ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s? I'm a Knight class, by the way. They are decimating me at the moment. I can't progress.

Just when I was feeling good about obliterating the Last Giant on my first try too...

Tips appreciated.

As a swordsman that took some time to get past the last giant. I only tried it for 20 minutes but they don't seem too hard as long as you take the lessons from defeating the boss by rolling/evading the hits. They only took for me about 6 - 8 hits to die.

The Giants take alot of extra damage from blunt weapons. A mace is really good. Like really really good.

Have you beaten the Forrest of the Fallen Giants first? If so, you should be good. Blunt weapons are best against the Old Knights (as is with many other armored enemies in the game), just roll behind them when they start their lenghty combos and whack the living hell out of them. Easy.
The stone knights, walk the left of their first swing then stay behing them till they finish their comb then use a strike weapon like the mace, the spear's heavy attack, smacks them with wooden handle, does a number on them too. If you having a real hard time go human and summon someone, hpefully they're nt a noob and you can observe how they fight, dnt just stand and watch ofc gotta fight aswell which soome hosts forget.

i agree, run the forrest of the fallen giant area first... for beginners its alot more paced evenly.... personally i always run Heide's Tower first for the cleric vendor to open up the next area... the knights are preety easy once you get their attack pattern, u can circle them and never have to roll... they 3 swing then u attack... slow and steady.

they are ridiculously weak to strike damage, so get yourself a club for 800 souls and unleash some blunt force trauma

Try Dranglice shield and spinning around behind them as they strike.

The giant knights are... extremely slow. Extremely super very slow. Position yourself as well as you can, don't get greedy trying to swing lots of times for big damage, and if at all possible, sidestep instead of block. It costs less endurance. Move slowly, and if all else fails, farm the giants down so less spawn on the way to the boss. Praise the Sun.

beware the 2nd and the 4th swing...

Thanks everyone. I've already gone through the Forest area.

I realised I wasn't using my shield properly (I was trying to dodge all attacks instead of blocking them, causing me to lose all stamina very quickly and not let me recover it - also they are very hard to dodge because they just spin 360° on the spot to hit you anyway).

I'm getting much better at facing the Old Knights now because of this realisation. Gradually causing them to not respawn one-by-one so that I can take on the Dragonrider with as much health as possible.

Not sure how to deal with the Heide Knights though. I tried waking one up and it didn't go well.

Heide knights are pretty tough, I recommend going to nomanswharf, getting Greatsword(ultra greatsword) and coming back to pancake them!
try ally

So far, it's just the fact that enemies stop respawning after about 15-20 times (or whatever it is) that's allowing me to chip away at this area. I have no idea how I'm going to manage the original DS1 game (planning to play them both concurrently, switching between them every so often), where enemies never disappear. I guess I'll just have to farm more enemies.

I had another strategy. After Last Giant i went for the Persuer . After that you can obtain Dragenlick set . From it you need shield ( or maybe you can find different shield with 100% phys res ) and a dragenlick sword . After that Heides Tower is easy . For big knights use shield , they cant strike through it . For Heide knights i use sprinting attack with sword .
