I hope RTX comes soon.

You bought because of the hype. Early adopters reminiscent of the first HD TV's everyone had to have. And now 4k w/HDR. Where was the content? Zip! Not saying it'll take years but I certainly won't jump onto that RTX bandwagon for quite a while. So yeah you'll be bummin'. Not saying you've wasted your money, but you'll think so like you got cheated. A marginal cosmetic improvement in some graphics for twice the money and a severe hit on FPS. That's my take.
Well I bought it more for the increase in performance overall as my 1080 was starting to struggle in some games at 1440p. The RTX features were certainly a bonus though that I am eager to try out in a game. Metro Exodus would have been perfect but they delayed the Steam release until next year.

I hardly ever replay story driven narrative games so I just want to experience RTX in this game when I play it.

Oops what I meant was that the Steam release was delayed by a year.

EDIT: its fine to develop new techniques but to barely get 10 - 15 % boost from a prior line for 2x the cost ..... NO.
2080 Ti is more than 15% over 1080 Ti and even more than that for me as I was coming from a 1080.

I bought this in the winter sale and it's just been chilling in my library as I thought I'd wait for the promised RTX patch before starting. It's the only RTX I currently own seeing as Metro Exodus was delayed until next year. Has there been any rough timeline for adding RTX to this game?

In topic Has there been any word on the RTX patch?
I've been wanting to play this game since day 1 (really enjoyed the previous two 'modern' Tomb Raider games) but since I have an RTX 2080 Ti I feel as though I should wait until the RTX patch is out, even though I didn't buy the GPU specificially for ray tracing.

I sucessfully resisted the 30% off sale last month but the new 50% discount in the current Autumn sale is making it really difficult to wait for RTX. But maybe it'll be 75% off at Christmas when RTX will have been patched in? What to do, what to do...

Alt-right and neo nazis don't just own things just because they claim to. They never owned the rights to that cartoon frog either. They don't get to decide popular culture.

And if you get you get offended by the character dabbing in this game just because neo nazis also happen to dab then you are letting them win and walk right over you. Fight back by ignoring them, not by censorsing innocent fun. To do that is merely aiding their cause.

In topic Which monitor should I return?
The third AOC AG271QG I've tried (the two that I already returned had similar levels of backlight bleed) is on the left side, the first Acer XB271HU I've tried is on the right side:

Black screen, 50% monitor brightness, moderate ambient light in room:
http://i64.tinypic.com/5zk686.jpg

Video with dark scene, 50% monitor brightness, moderate ambient light in room:
http://i64.tinypic.com/s16bmg.jpg

Video with dark scene, 50% monitor brightness, darkened room: http://i65.tinypic.com/33c858h.jpg

As you can hopefully see from they photos the backlight bleed isn't as noticeable on the Acer as it is on the AOC.

Is the amount of backlight bleed on the Acer as good as I can reasonably expect to get in the IPS panel lottery?
I got the Logitech G703 today and I'm definitely noticing a difference! This mouse definitely feels better than the cheapo budget one I had before. It's more ergonomic and comfortable to move around (weight, size, shape, sturdiness), the buttons produce quieter and nicer 'click' sounds, the better sensor helps with smoother tracking to the surface and the extra buttons and RGB lights are nice to have! I also like seeing exactly how much battery power it has left.

Well it's not really acceptable to me, but if this is better than average for these monitors then I'll just have to live with it. If this is deemed worse than average then I'll return it. I haven't seen enough of these monitors to know what the 'average' level of bleed is. Hence why I'm asking the community!

I rather not revive ancient, dead threads as I thought that was against forum rules?

I can’t go for any other monitor as ASUS, Acer, Viewsonic all have stands that are too deep to fit on my desk. This one has a much shallower profile and that’s why it is the only option I have (I can’t replace desk).

Well,in that case ... my advice would be to return it , ask for refund ... Asus and Acer have basicly same monitors as your AOC,but they cost little bit more ... There is also 4th company which makes very similiar monitors like yours( 27 inches,IPS,144(165) hz,G-Sync,2540x1440) ,but i can't remember it's name
Yeah, thanks for the help. That last one is Viewsonic. Unfortunately I have looked at all of those other models and their stands are too deep to fit on my desk and I don’t want to get a 3rd party VESA mount. AOC is the only one that would fit (desk is non-replaceable).

It cost me £45 ($61) to send the first one back so safe to say that I live in a primitive country! I hope I won't have to pay this time around as this one was bought from Amazon instead and their return policy is quite good usually.

Trouble is, Amazon have completely ran out of stock of this monitor. I can only choose an option to refund in their return centre, there's no option to send me a replacement. And after the experience of dealing with the return policy of the first retailer I don't trust anyone but Amazon in that regard.

So you definitely think it should be returned?

so i think the panel you have only has a year warranty. i could be wrong.

Thanks but it's 3 years in Europe (I live in the UK). But that's kind of irrelevant to my current situation as I don't need to claim though warranty as I can return for full refund within 14 days of purchase (mandated by EU consumer law).

This is the second unit I've tried and I'm not going to bother trying for a third one. My patience has ran out.

If this one goes back I'm going to go for an alternative model (Dell S2417DG).

I just don't know which is the lesser of the two evils: TN image quality or IPS backlight bleed?

In daylight lit room yes, at nighttime even with the room lit it becomes very noticeable. I fired up Metro 2033 last night at could still see bleed in the corners at 25% brightness.

yes definitely worthy of sending back. aoc has from what i can tell a 1 year manufacturer warranty.

However you may have some kind of extra warranty from the store you purchased it from and I would take full use of that extra warranty (if applicable) and see if you can do a 1:1 replacement.

If they can, ask them to unpack the monitor at their store and check for backlight bleed before taking it home again.

If you can't do a 1:1 replacement. Then ask for a refund.
Thanks, it's actually 3 year warranty with AOC. I have 14 days from yesterday to return it.

The thing is that this is the 1:1 replacement! This is the second one I've tried because the first had the same issue.

The camera does exaggerate slightly but that's with the monitor set to 50% brightness.

I just recently purchased a new Vizio LED 32" 1080p Smart TV (as a monitor) to replace its older brother that ive had for 6 years or so. LOVINNNN ITTTT

But yeah, id def send that back and get something else
whether or not its supposed to be like that, i sure couldnt take it having that effect.

Would it maybe lessen after its been used for some time?
That's what I'm wondering as well. But I only have a limited time to return it.

the thing is backlight bleed is almost impossible to eliminate due to nature of the technology of ips displays..soo a little backlight bleed is always expected.

I returned my first AOC AG271QG IPS monitor because of bright pixels and backlight bleed. I've just received a second today and sure enough... backlight bleed. However, I can't see any dead or bright pixels on this one so that's an improvement.

Here's some photos I took just now of the backlight bleed:

Here's an image at 100% brightness.[i64.tinypic.com]
And here's one at 50% brightness.[i65.tinypic.com]
And finally here's one at 0% brightness.[i66.tinypic.com]

Is the above bleed normal for this panel? This one is no different to the first unit I tried (both manufactured in February 2018 but bought from different retailers).

Is this a worthy trade off to make or should I go just give up and go with the Dell S2417DG TN monitor?
