Best class/gift for beginners for these games?
Hey, so I've done some reading online and it appears that Pyromancer is a good starting class for DS:PTDE (with master key as gift) and Knight is a good choice for DSII:SOTFS (with petrified something as gift) in terms of suitability for a complete newcomer to the Dark Souls series.

This is what I'm planning on doing for my 1st playthrough of each game. Do these sound like good choices for a Dark Souls novice?

If you're a complete newcomer then healing wares may be a better choice in DS2. Petrified something just gives you a chance to trade it in for a random (potentially useless to you) item.

I don't find any of the other starting gifts to be particularly useful in DkSII, and the Petrified Something gives you a chance at some fairly useful items that can only be acquired in that way. I wouldn't choose any other starting gift. There are really only three starting gifts worth considering in DkS, and a beginner wouldn't be particularly interested in either of the other two - the Master Key is the clear choice.

As for starting class, I agree with both choices, although you should be aware that you cannot respec in DkS, so those starting stats do matter for min/max'ers. Bandit gives you a slightly better point spread if you plan to go full melee and its gear is also quite useful. The actual difference is very slim, however.

IMO healing wares is the best item choice for a newbie, all the items can be found in the game and I feel like being able to make a few more mistakes in the early game gives you more room to learn the game.

Aside from Deprived, all the starting classes are good in DS2, choose whatever class looks the most fun to you, people will argue over whats better but its all opinion.

Try doing it in location where tough boss is,it'll help a lot

Don't do this it makes the area harder.

I am a complete newbie to the series and have had np's starting out, although playing blind I chose the life ring, but c'est la vie. From what friends and family tell me, healing items appear to be in greater abundance in this version, I certainly have had np’s holding onto a ready supply.

OFC! If you want to play a Hard game, maybe chosing the hard class is the best idea, moreover in late game this class is the best for making an specific build. Cheers!!
