DS2 is the best souls game.
FT haters. Elden ring was good but nothing can compare to this masterpiece! :praisesun:

This game is horrible. Playing it for the first time. Played the other souls and elden ring. Literally worse than ds1 in every way, looks like the game came out in 2007

For me, this is the best game mostly for the online play. Since they refuse to fix it right now, it makes more sense that you aren't enjoying it so much

ER might actually take over DS2 as my favorite FromSoft game. After DS2, that's the game i hoped DS3 would be in terms of combat. The performance-issues, which just gotten worse with the last patch, keep that from happening at the moment, though. But DS2 also had a..."not so great" launch, albeit in a different way.
Agreed!

How many hours do you have on ER? Or rather how many playthroughs? I personally can't stand ER anymore. Too much copy-pasting and actual garbage tier pacing/open world design. Couple it with the fact that online has no purpose and you have a game that's good for essentially 1 playthrough and that's it.

That's on top of bosses who are often the same exact design mind you. A lot of bosses have annoying AoE spam and just the same kinda crappy movesets and unfun combos that give them way too much mobility. Bad pacing/progression, too much bloat and copy-pasting, bad boss designs and an online mode not worth it.

The map's also rather bad, I did some basic calculations earlier and from what I gathered, my previous guesses were kinda right. Map seems to be around 7.75x6.5km (excluding the edges with only water there), but then within those 50km2 you still have inaccessible space that's either water or cliffs/stuff and most of the playable area is just dead space. We're talking like a 17-22km2 map or something where most of the space is just empty. That's not counting the underground btw, but still. Just kinda sucks.

I agree
The others felt boring in comparison and not as enjoyable and fun.
I've been playing ds2 for almost 7 years by now.

Souls 2 is my favorite. I understand the hate though. It's a very spicy mix and Forest of Fallen Giants isn't the best first impression but I still love the game.

It's a shame they decided to release it over a year early. Shame on Bamco for that one. Even if BPG were to remake DS2 for some reason it wouldn't be changed at all, besides maybe taking out SM.

From all the things, DS2 gets criticized for, SM is easely the most inconsequential thing, since SotFS, which added the Agape Ring. SM was pretty awful before that point, though.

Dark Souls 2 is subjectively my favorite of the Trilogy + Elden Ring, but objectively I can recognize that it is shoddily constructed at its core. It didn't get the proper full-bake that it needed, and it shows in both the disjointed world layout and staggering amount of unused/undeveloped content hidden below the surface of the game files.

Dark Souls 2 needs a second chance to go back into the oven and get the makeover it deserves. This idea is a little background hobby of mine that I work on from time to time, but I doubt I'll get to the point of making anything concrete. The dream is there, though.

Well, there's that one guy, trying to make DS2 at least look more like it's promotional materials. He's working on this project for years now and seems to go beyond just "fixing" DS2. I hope i get to see those "Darker Than Black"-style mannequins one day.

Here's his Twitter, if you want to keep updated on the mod's progress:

I'm kinda in the middle. Elden ring's combat is way better than ds2's combat but the open world kinda ruins it and the maps in ds2 are more fun to go through.
