Sir Alonne as a heavy built character with Black Knight Greatsword.
So here's the thing; has anyone else felt like this boss is the absolute worst / hardest boss in the game, if you are playing with a semi-slow greatsword and can't roll the fastest in the game?

I never spent so much time on a single boss in all of the Souls / Borne games until this piece of awesome came into the picture; even without NG+ levels, he hits like a tank with his later phases and glowing sword, and has a massive health pool... I finally managed to beat him with my greatsword, solo, but it took so god-awful long, and most of my time was spent rolling and only getting one hit in, and one mistake, it was almost over for me in an instant.

I could have chosen to go in with a faster weapon and lighter build, but my nature just did not allow for that. Didn't even feel like a true win in the end, just frustration all around...

Opinions?

Alonne is bs because his glowing sword hitbox is complete and utter crap, like most of the grabbing hitboxes in this game, you get hit by it even when you've rolled past him and are behind him.

Healing opportunities are kinda scarce as well which can make it tricky.

I had a lot of trouble with him as well but mainly due to the glowing sword attack.

Fatroll builds are garbage but as long as you can roll, you're good. There's only a single roll speed, the fatroll aside. Dodge to the side of the grabbing stab and you're fine. If you get twoshotted, get more Vigor. Yes, the boss doesn't allow spam but rather one hit inbetween his attacks. He also doesn't allow healing in his face, but there's enough windows for an opportunity. You can also block with a high stability shield, but his hits drains a lot of stamina. If you feel frustrated because of your inability to adapt, the problem's on your side.

That's how it is for most tough bosses though. If you can get one hit in, that should be enough right?

And I've beaten him with a fatrolling Havel cosplay and it was pretty fun for me.

That attack has a lingering hitbox, slightly delaying your roll and rolling to your left works everytime for me.

I'd say there's a difference between lingering and just being downright broken, you dodge past him and are standing behind him before you're getting teleported in front of him and onto his sword.

if you find this boss hard, how did you defeat the kings pets? Oo

1 hit at a time is enough. I beat him with the Greatsword and ~69% weight, to just prevent fatrolling and it wasn't that difficult. The biggest difficulty to me was adapting to his charge speed (again).

In another run, I basically blocked nearly all his attacks by optimizing my shield stats (stamina block reduction ring, greatshield, etc...) and it worked fine as well until I got hit by the drain ability.

Funny thing; for me the charge was always almost a 100% dodge (adapted to it pretty quickly), but some of his combos really managed to hit me hard.

Yeah, I can't really call anything in this fight broken, but sometimes it felt like he was on speed and just kept coming and coming and some of his hits were not anywhere near me and they still hit me. Even though my roll was screen-perfect IMO and my adapt. was good enough.

Just wanted to get some opinions on this boss, really took the most time for me for sure - glad I managed to gs kill him though, in the end. Nothing ever felt this "hard" or challenging in the games for me, so I guess they managed to make a rather good boss or something...
Alonne isn't that difficult of a Boss once you get used to his insane dash, just don't bring allies, his tracking is erratic and unpredictable. Also if you kick his ass without taking damage, he kills himself instead. It's a good fight and I use the Defender Greatsword myself, long as you're not fat-rolling, he's managable.

Off Topic OP, how did you enjoy Fume Knight?

Also what's your agility stat sitting at?

Lud and Zallen with no summons is harder, roll his sweeps and stick his right, the most frustrating boss for me was darklurker

He is tough. I fought him at least 20 times just to beat him without taking a hit. Prety ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happy when I did. Used a katana and light armor to beat him. IMO best boss in the game.

I think Darklurker is pretty easy if you can cheese his AI into only Melee. Frustrating, but doable.

I'd have to give it to Fume Knight. :) He's a great fight and compares to the entire series too.

Yeah Fume boi is amazing but not that hard for me. With high stamina and adp. all you gotta do is just wait for him to start swinging and get to his back. He isn't fast as Alonne so to me he is easier but haven't tried killing him without taking a hit so he might be harder.
