Sir Alonne is a joke
They actually designed a boss that launches into the next attack before it's possible to finish using a lifegem.

The entire Memory of the Old King area is an admittance of defeat from the team that designed DS2. They can't create actual difficulty, so they just spam poise enemies, fire lizards, backtracking, and cheap boss mechanics.

Sir Alonne is one of the best designed bosses of the series. You're just salty. The fight is fun, although the area is pretty annoying. Easy but annoying.

git gud

DS3? What are you talking about, every boss there gives you openings to use estus.

His moveset is actually pretty decent. It's the lameness of making it slightly faster than the heals, which leads to guaranteed high dmg hits from him, that makes the fight artificially harder.

The entire area is just terribly designed. It's not even hard, it's just backtracking and enemy spam.

Nah he does have healing openings. Just not after every attack.

Sir Alonne get completely destroyed by great shields and the Old Iron King DLC is so much easier with a bit of strategy, like using Alluring Skull.

If only you realized, that estus is actually punishable.

You still have to time your life gems correctly against most of the DLC bosses.

Probably a bit of both.

While I agree with OP that the Old Iron King DLC area is rather bad designed I have to say that the glorious nippon steeru wielding Sir Alonne is fine. Hell, I enjoy mopping the floor with his ass. Btw you can heal yourself just fine between his attacks if needed.
You are just too bad to beat him, accept it. All I can say is either git gud or move on
I beat him, lol. I also beat Bed of Chaos, but that don't mean it's a well-designed fight. xD

I mean, just because you struggled with a fight doesn't mean it's a badly-designed one, either.

This. Alonne didn't feel unfair to me at all. I guess the main lesson is to learn is that you cannot always estus or gem after every single attack. Learn the ones that are safest to heal after, and use those.

(Almost) every single enemy before Sir Alonne can be fought on one-on-one if you're careful and aggro them from a distance with a bow. Also the fire lizards can be straight up killed from a distance with a bow (just stay diagonal to them). Or if all the alonne knights in the room are dead you can just run behind the fire lizards and kill them with your melee weapon (they can't hurt you if you get behind them since they're stuck facing forward). If you kill one of those giant fire lizards with a spin-to-win two handed R2 from a weapon like a Demon's Greathammer they have a special death sound and animation. You almost feel bad for them. You only get to try that out there because the fire lizards in the Forest Of Fallen Giants (in the area next to the Last Giant's boss room) can roam around freely and mow you down with their insane charge attacks.

Imo the only thing that's unfair about Sir Alonne is his special attack that has a hitbox that vacuum's you in like a Dark Souls 1 backstab, lol. Even with high adp that can grab you from a mile away.

I'm a big fan of greatshields and tank builds but most enemies and all DLC bosses can destroy your stamina bar pretty easily. Fume Knight laughs at greatshield users and eats their stamina bar like it's a snack. I speak from experience of many attempts at him while tanking his hits (it didn't end well most of the time). The Baneful Bird Ring can help greatshield users a lot though.

Oh and btw saying "[insert boss here] is a joke" can be misleading. At first I thought you were saying it as if Sir Alonne was super easy and you were going to be bragging about how fast you beat him.

Sir Alonne as a fight overall is okay, but yeah his black hole vaccuum attack is ridiculous.
+ the whole area before him is really tedious to have to go through x amount of times, which makes it really annoying and frustrating.
Fume knight has the bonfire right before him which makes it a lot less annoying to die against him and also promotes trying to do it legit and not finding some kind of cheese tactic.

Lorian doesn't.

It sounds like you're having issues with stamina regen. Decrease your weight, equip chloranthy ring, and put a Regen shield on.

The stamina Regen is artificially low in this game. You're gonna need to do some item management and create distance.

He absolutely does. You even get gigantic openings before and after he fires his big fire spell on the ground, and once he gets his bro on his back, you can still go behind pillars to drink safely.

My weight is under 70%.
