The torch-wielding friend in No Man's Wharf
Anybody care to share the lore of this guy? Why doesn't he attack you? While we're at it, are there any other non-hostile "enemies" in the game?

I don't know why he doesn't attack us but there is another friendly guy at Undead Crypt. Sadly, you need kill him before Agdayne's room because fire is not allowed inside the Crypt.

Which is quite the ♥♥♥♥ move from the game as I don't recall there being any clue that tells you not to do that.
There is also the gigant ant at the gutter who cures you from poison but slowly damages your equipment durability if you stay long enough in its fog.

There is also a tree with twisting eyes in the Crown of the Sunken King DLC that repair your gears.

Wait, not to do what? Not to bring light into Agdayne's room? He tells you "Halt. Human. Do not produce light. Light, and all those who bear it, are unwelcome in this place.". Of course if you're a Pyromancer you might be tempted to burn him to a crisp or as a Paladin you'd want to purify him with holy light as any good Paladin would :P. Seriously though, Agdayne makes it clear that light "only agitates" and he has no need for it there. He has some interesting dialogue and can help you with the area boss so it's best to leave him alive. Also I consider himthe strongest npc in the game. Maybe only topped by Licia because Licia can cast Great Heal in rapid succession.

Does he? I don't remember him saying that, and I went back there the other day to see what he sold only to find his grave, so I guess I didn't listen or didn't realise the hollow bringing a torch would make him mad at me for whatever reason.. either way he's dead.

Yeah. He says it every time you go into his room. EVERY TIME. Not just the first time, lol. I have a somewhat silly theory that torch bro (the torch hollow) used to be a one of those clerics that came to the Undead Crypt to try and conquer it but now he's hollow and using a torch he found to try and cure people of the dark's influence by letting them see light. Something noble like that :P. It's why he's not aggro to you. He wants to guide you through the darkness and make sure you don't get corrupted by the dark.

http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Insolent+Set (it mentions the clerics who tried to conquer the crypt)

Well he said it the first time maybe, he wasn't alive for the second time, he probably has a pretty sizeable aggro range to that torch guy, as when I went there the other day I was rushed by his grave wardens even before I came close to that room.

And it could be something like that, it would be more interesting it there wasn't one like him in No mans wharf, alternatively I was thinking about Olenford, but don't think there's really a connection there.

What? Agdayane tells you NO FIRE as soon as you pass him. You literally can't miss the notification.

Well last time I went through that area was a year ago, but apperantly I didn't caught on to it because he's dead now.
