Normal is the base game story line, breakdown is a sandbox that has a mechanic that resets the map making it harder each time (basically you repair an RV and drive off with a few people & the map resets, each time getting less resources and more stronger zombies). Lifeline is a story based much more action orientated story from the side of the military.

My advice is to play Normal mode first - it is kind of an extended tutorial for how the game works. Hone your skills in Breakdown (which uses the same map as Breakdown) and, when you finally get tired of Trumbull Valley, move on to Lifeline for a different map and different story.

Both lifeline and normal mode have story "ends", breakdown has no story it's just a sandbox.

OK I did get on normal mode the second camp and did upgrade it, raided nearby houses, but have no quests to do ?

They pop up an random intervals, don't worry just keep building your camp up then they'll appear eventually.

It is crazy how such things (the question that did open this thread) need to be googled because devs did not care to give a simple description of each mode in the very first menu where player meets the game for the first time.
