lets look at the archaic issue of putting it on steam then requiring us to have another launcher and account to play thats total BS.
Delusional.
(One of the reasons) Anno 1800's popularity was so high was for having the best coop possible in an RTS/City builder.
No coop = no buy
No coop = no buy
Anno 1800 was great too… I skipped the one before it because it was single player only. I’ll not be playing this either if co-op is absent, sadly.
and now imagine this hot & spicy stuff:
you and your friend play SOLO seperated on 2 islands, nicely trading stuff between each other as one island has other characteristics than the other . . . inside a MP session
no war (PvP) between players as you choose game settings, but "co-op" against NPCs if you wish and to add 1 or 2 or more NPCs into this session which can be saved, if being friendly NPCs and/or foes,
this is what ANNO is about and ever been .. a (Pv)PvE and co-op experience in a sandbox universe, while the campaign, with a neat story, ever been the tutorial itself ..
winning conditions:
trade that many items between players . . .
gain that many currency from trading . . .
. . .
if you like complex city building stuff in single player, go and play SimCity 4, or simply start a solo sandbox game in Anno ... nothing to hinder you to do that .. but let others have fun in co-op PvE mutliplayer which has existed since the late 1990's ... for nearly 3 decades already
since ANNO 1602 there was "multiplayer" / co-op / PvE and PvP .. just this stupid 2205 had not .. 2205 was completely singleplayer but had an online-only mode. 2205 was no fun ..
this online-only service is an additional anti-cheat feature to prevent cheater to use exploits in other words, beginning with editing .txt or .ini files or to modify other .. the times have obviously changed within past 30 years ..
so, still clearly: No Multiplayer == No Buy !!
i would then rather wait 2~3 years after release to buy it on a -95% off sale for 5 EUR .. cuz, why should i even pre-order it .. why pre-ordering a singleplayer game, why buying a singleplayer game for a full price even .. ?!
i bought and own multiple copies of all other Anno titles, besides Anno 2205 and the worst of the series, Anno 1701 .. so i DO support the Developers .. but i do NOT support singleplayer games .. especially here at Anno as it ever been a multiplayer game, do you understand .. ?!
and if the developers are that kind, they would re-add a "WORKSHOP" for Anno. so custom stuff and even mods can be used .. for your land-only "islands" without any water around to build whatever you like which is not Anno-canon .. you then better run SimCity 4 Deluxe
and additionally, many players seek for the return of "ANNO ONLINE". this game was so lit, BEFORE it was released on Steam ... Steam made this friendly environment toxic ..
as Anno Online was flash-based, the developers should port it into C/C++/C# ... or even release an "Anno Online II", thank you !!

That doesn't mean that multiplayer isn't important to us, Anno 1800 had both PvP and coop, after all (like the older Annos), and we appreciate that for some players Anno is something they most enjoy in multiplayer with friends, siblings, partners, ...
We'll go more into detail on this later this year, but yeah, Anno 117: Pax Romana will have multiplayer.
You guys have a really hard job to do. Look at the civ7, cities skylines 2 etc. All these promising games are bombarded by negative reviews due to very high expectations from previous titles and we getting lack of content or low quality work that doesn't meet our expectations. Anno 1800 is a massive game with crazy amount of good quality content so people expect nothing less from the 117. I understand the people are worrying losing features. That's my biggest wish from Anno; not doing the same mistakes like other games did.
