The best I could do is settle for peace with the French duchies and focus my efforts towards the pagan Germans. It went well for a while until war weariness kicked in and I had numerous separatists movements start. From there it just snowballed against me...
I thought this last update for the DLC patches would have made it 'better' or more 'playable' but I think they made it more difficult...
I think u guys should just play campaign on more easy settings because -8 public order penalty on legendary is huge (beside all other penalties), and it definitely helps with rebellions in provinces.
The Avars stomp other factions when you play them because they're the only horse archer centric faction in the game. That and they get shock cav earlier than anyone else.
Its basically always the same when it comes to managing empires and that is building appropriate buildings and balancing provinces. And in Charlemagne keeping a good public order is easier for Christian factions because they can build abbeys. Also its easier to engage in diplomacy because they like you more (same faith). For example was able to get trade agreements with pretty much all christian faction (on VH), which is impossible with avars.
someone has clearly never played The Kingdom of Charlemagne. and you've never beaten the game as them despite it being "easier" what a coincidence
