Why no Tiefling, Dragonborn or Drow?
All of which are in the 5th ed PHB but not in this game? Let me guess, milk us for money for those races right? IF they are even added at all? Not interested in my grandads wanna be LotR races anymore...

It matters in PnP as well of course! In PnP you have more options and so its nice to have your PC look how you imagine them and if your PC looks odd it's poor DMing to have people treat said PC like "human in funny suit" syndrome. (Unless of course said PC is normal to the setting, like say Star Wars. It has TONS of freakish looking aliens.)

But as for tieflings, those old style tieflings existed, so why should they not now? The DMG does say that the books don't matter anyway. I for one would allow a tiefling to look like anything from a normal human/elf with maybe weird colored eyes to the demon looking creatures of 4e and 5e. If suddenly 6e came out and elves were now liitle green men type alien things I would still allow the classical look as well as the new one.

Drow and Tiefling are so overused that I am glad they are not in the game.
Pft not really. Drow are the overused ones. And I have a feeling they will be in. Don't like em, go play Tolkien or something. I hate the "classic" races. Unoriginal DMing imo. Cause every damn fantasy race is going to look human with minor variations? Ugh, just like Classic Star Trek "forehead syndrome".

Because Tieflings are now a race unto themselves, not a subrace. It doesn't fit the setting anymore whatsoever to have tieflings who look like totally normal humans. If you're playing classic 5th ed, Tieflings are going to be obvious demonic looking people. Just like they will in this game if they ever add them.

Not fit in the setting? Once again for PnP total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. On the very first page of the 5e DMG "The world where you set your campaign is one of countless worlds that make up the D&D multiverse... Even if you are using an established world... your game takes place in a mirror universe... The world is yours to change as you see fit and yours to modify as you explore the consequences of the players."

From the 5e DMG page 68 "Worlds of the Material Plane are infinitely diverse. The most widely known worlds are the ones that have been published as official campaign settings for the D&D game over the years. If your campaign takes place in one of these worlds, that world belongs to you in your campaign. Your version of the world can diverge wildly from what's in print."

Much better than every single character in this game having dark skin, white hair and purple eyes and dual scimitars due to post pubescent pre-teen's rolling drow due to Drizzt envy. Or how many human with saber and dagger are we going to see??? People with no damn imagination.

Please, the clones come from way way earlier than that. What about Conan? Lord of the Rings?

I can deal with clones... just cant wait to see how many new toons will have some derivative of the name D'rizzt. As with any game with Drow... they will be everywhere.

Oh, and I dont mind clones of Conan and Lord of the Rings. Both sets of novels are staples in any Fantasy collection. D'rizzit novels, not so much. Would be more humane or Elfmane, if you will, to just kill em off.

I've read tieflings. I was considering playing one. I actually don't know anything about tieflings from older versions at all. I only know that haer'dalis is a tiefling in BG2 and he certainly didn't look like how they are described now.

Also classic? That makes no sense. *wait I retract that. just read the definition of classic and one of the meanings is basic*

Though saying as a DM "no, teiflings have a wide variety of appearances" changes absolutely nothing except for NPC reactions. Unless your story revolves around the appearance of tieflings than it doesn't matter. Also as a player wouldn't you WANT to have more customizability?

Of course all of my points are completely and utterly useless outside of PnP.
But it DOES make sense. If you're running D&D by the book Tieflings are all demonic looking and obvious. Its part of the whole race's history and such. If you change that it changes a lot of the background for them. If you can be a non obvious tiefling then you wouldn't suffer as much persecution at all, you may not even know you are a tiefling. It changes things a lot.

When I played Drow I made my own. Not Drizzt. I like Jarlaxle far more. I imagine more good drow acting a bit like Gareth on DS9? The "good" Cardasion?
Yet if there were so many "good" drow then why do we not see more in any books or lore? Giving the rights to make "Good" drow goes against what the basis of what Drow are. Evil. Drizzit, may an Illthid suck out his brains through his T-E-S-T-I-C-L-E-S, is meant to be the ONE exception.

I dont have a problem with Drow being in game really, people would ♥♥♥♥♥, moan and throw hissy fits until they do put them in. (Also BTW they ARE in the game as a Elf Subrace) I just have a problem with running into 49 Drizzits wannabe's online per every 50 Drow I meet.
If you want the honest truth, Dragonborn should never have created.

WRONG. What about Ellistraee hmm? The drow godess? Daughter of Corellian and Lloth who joined the drow pantheon to bring drow back into the light? If you bothered to read the War of the Spider Queen books and the Lady Penitent series there are indeed more good drow. Susprina Arkenheld? The daughter of the drow main character? And what about Drizzt's father? There are definitely more good drow in lore. You're not as read up on drow as you think. I am. I know for a fact there are far more good drow out there.

Yeah.... seems 4th Edition screwed up yet again. Honestly, why make Dragonborn instead of just flushing out more story on the Saurial's, like Dragonbait from the Azure Bonds book.
