Hackers and Cheating in SCL
Since this game is IMMEASURABLY easy to hack, is there going to be some form of protection against people who've played for 1 hours, are already level 20, and have 999 in all their stats from coming in and ruining other people's adventures?

Example: http://s25.postimg.org/c00lv0x67/2015_09_18_00008.jpg

(Yes, I know that character is level 1, with 999 in every stat. The minute he entered the adventuring camp/starting point, he went to the merchants, and his CHR is so high-- THEY PAY HIM to take their stuff. But, he's been hacked up to have 5,000,000 gold anyway, to prove the concept.)

Why does it matter? cannot trade items to other toons, when you reach 20 you will have the smae items, they cannot run in your group, if try the DM can kick them. There is no end game so what does it matter if they want to ruin their experience by power levelling?

As a matter of fact, I gave a purple bow to a level 2 rogue from that level 20 Fighter.

Ash has seen the screenshots and acknowledge the issue. That's all that matters.

That I have :) -- Hey there Stormbow

Yeah, we're aware of the numerous exploits. We had a feeling people would figure some of them out, but WOW, you guys are good :)

What does it matter either way? Ig he is playing single player then it should not.

Seen a lot of posts an people in the stream today asking for an inspect character sheet option and a vote to kick option. If we get those then people with 999 skills an one shotting every single thing, we can sort that problem out ourselves as a community. We can inspect each player as they join, see their ridiculous stats and remove em from our games.

You do have a point. As SCL isn't an MMO that sort of activity doesn't really do much except spoil the individual's experience. Still, we'd love to see people progress naturally and have fun adventuring to find loot.

The DM nor host can ban anyone. A kicked player can immediately return to the game.

Ash man... your game is lacking in a LOT of aspects. I sincerely hope you guys can address all these before release because it is a lot of stuff to deal with.

Better save system.
Looting system.
Exploiting.
Networking issues.
Better AI.

And a myriad of other concerns being posted by the community. I got jumped on by people for pointing out the faults on here and on the stream. I WANT this game to succeed but atm this feels like alpha.

I hope the story adds substantially to the game but I just don't see how adding story will fix the design issues and mechanics in 10 days.

What the guy above me says. The cheaters will disappear as soon as they come. They can't "win the game" by hacking. This is one of the games where if you hack, you'll have fun maybe for a week at the most owning other people modules. But it will die out soon, since D&D is about role-play, story, immersion into character, hosting cool modules, etc etc.

In a game like this I don't care about hackers. It's not a pvp game and I can just simply leave a game if a hack character making the content boring.

There is no game economy. This is not an MMO. You give money to other players. The only economy to speak of is if wealthier players acquire high level items and twink low level players. The economy the devs refer to is characters getting gear inappropriate for their level. That is the only kind of economy that is in the game.

If you have a problem with a hacker, boot them. You don't have to play with someone you dislike. It is not like Diablo 1 where a hacker can pop into a game, rush Diablo at the bottom level, and ruin the campaign for everyone else. Someone running around with 999 stats will be obvious quickly (just hover your mouse over their portrait to see their HP). If they're one-shotting everything, you know what you need to know.

There is no game ecomomy, you can't trade money, A lvl 1 pc with all the money in the world only has access to the same equipment a lvl 1 with 10g has. It's a non competitive game, there is no pvp. Both hosting players and Dm's can kick a player at will. And honestly for all we know that picture was photoshopped. There is no advantage to hacking a characters, so it's really a non issue the way I see it.

Have fun :)!

I"ll come clean - I was very easily able to hack this game. I have a reverse engineering background so I have a bit of an advantage but it was trivial to hack XP and gold. I more or less did it out of curiosity just to see if it would even work. As it's been said, the game's not competitive so it's mostly harmless. A stat checking system can be implemented to detect of a character is illegal or not very easily, money is sort of a non-issue with no trading system, and insta-leveling to 20 is again harmless as there are trainer modules that will do it in less than 30 minutes already.

@ devs, you can harden the game by storing values in data structures with unique datatypes. Divinity Original Sin does this, it's not impossible (or really hard if you know what you're doing) to crack but it'll keep Bobby Script Kiddy from hackng 999 stat guys. And again, a stat checking system can be implemented and can simply dissallow illegal characters from joining public games - private or friends only games would be OK because hey maybe people want to work outside the established system.

Tbh in a way you actually kind of want that whole system to be an actual tool for the exact reason you gave there at the end. People want to work outside the established system because the system is lacking a bit.

But I see this as a potentially good addition. DM's have the ability to basically mold and shape encounters even more if this could also be applied to enemies. Altering their values would allow to create all sorts of tough and even funny encounters.

I say add it as a DM tool. Allow them to change all sorts of things with a lot more depth to it. I really don't see this game as D&D at all. More as a tool to create content for it and being able to see it played out more than anything.
