Btw once you finish all the scenarios you unlock Afterstory which is the feels trip.
My biased opinion is that the thorough character building is worth it. I have not watched the anime adaptation.
I watched the anime first and yea they do cut content a bit, but all the main things you need to know are there and plus on you thing for watching the anime it would be 49 x 24 min because of after story and the Tomoyo and Kyou arc.
But i just started the game as well but have seen the anime in its entirty 9 times and I would recommend the game first just because of more character building and all the extra content the game has is a plus, but I would continue the anime after you are done because it is a very good series.
It's basically a "Read the book vs watch the movie" arguement, except we don't see many of those nowadays since no one reads books XD
