Route Order
I'm wondering just how strict the route order was. I know stuff like Kotomi and Yukine's routes you can do whenever but I'm just trying to get on Fuko's story and I'm not sure if I'll need to do Yoshio~Nagisa's route immediately after or if I could move onto the other routes, do that duo's and then finish up on the Tomoyo one. Sorry if it's a little confusing XD As a side note, once I do reach the after story will I be needing a guide or is it a single route thing?

I don't believe the route order is too strict if you just want to beat the game. However, there are certain routes that have extra little scenes depending on other routes that you've played before. You don't necessarily need to do Toshio Koumura or Nagisa's route immediately after, but at least playing them in that order will net you some few extra scenes. It does make sense to me to do Nagisa's route last definitely though because that's the one that will get carried over into After Story. Also, if you want the 64 hit combo achievement, you should play Tomoyo's route after Koumura.
For After Story, some choices do matter, and you need to play through it more than once to fully complete it. I used a guide, but you don't necessarily have to if you know what you're doing.

I'm just using the order a guide said:

Miyazawa Yukine
Fuyibayashi Twins
Hiiragi Kappei
Ibuki Fuko
Sunohara Mei
Toshio Koumura
Ichinose Kotomi (You can play her earlier though)
Sagara Misae
Sakgami Tomoyo (Needs most of the others complete for a certain scene)
Furukawa Nagisa (Is the main route)

So it counts the routes directly after one another and not just "all previous routes"

I believe it does count all previous routes actually. At least for the certain scenes that I've seen.

what I can say is that Kanon is the one Key game if you want your decisions to matter. Since then their games became more and more static VNs. With fewer and fewer decisions that have an impact. For example Rewrite. What is a masterpiece but when you choose your partner the next 8h you will reading text without given any choice. No idea what they try to accomplish when they already nailed it (including the lenght and emotional impact) with Kanon.

Does Kanon really have more choices than CLANNAD?

Kanon has 5 girls. For the time being, Kanon has a 2006 anime that we have. So its Key's decisison to bring Kanon to the Digital Market on Steam & if they decide to do that, it would be the All-Ages Edition.
