Seeds for a new world
What are some good seeds for a new world??

I am looking for a large body of water that also has Ores close. I am having trouble finding larger bodies of water, and am not so great with the world edit tool... kinda ruined my world trying to make a lake lol.

Does anyone know of any good seeds that match what I am looking for? Am I able to download pre created worlds from people?

Thank you,

i assume you are talking about the old(java, store page) version, since the new version (beta branch) is islands and thus has large bodies of water everywhere?

also ores are fairly evenly distributed, apart from aluminum being primarily in mountains.

for the java version i think "ocean" or "australia" was such a seed. but just to let you know, under the beta branch you find the new version in unity, which is the only version getting updates and more content.

and that one doesn´t have square tiles as biomes anymore but huge islands surrunded by a sea.

I've found that a certain style of seed has larger islands versus the usually small island seeds we are getting currently. Something I think with a - in front of the numbers I think it was that brought the larger islands on but the biomes will make them larger. I'm still waiting until we get maps, the Java version had the most feasible style as 3D would probably be harsher on the system.

There is a guide from myself for seeds in the Java-version.
The seed ^demo^ works in the Unity-version for sure. I tried seed lake , seed cliff,, seed beach but i don't know if they really work.

The seed is just a number that 'seeds' the random number generator (RNG). The RNG is a deterministic algorithm that generates the same numbers every time, so you can think of the seed as just an index into a huge number array. You can start at that index and get the same series of 'random' numbers each time and then Red can create the world the same way every time it's loaded.

In other words, it's not a number you can manipulate to try to force the world generator to create a type of world you're looking for. You just have to try different ones until you get what you like, though some ranges of numbers may create similar styled worlds. You can use words (they just get converted to their number equivalent), but if they actually create something resembling what the word implies, it's just luck. I don't think Red has put keywords into the Unity version to override the RNG and create a specific type of world. I think the Java version had some of those. That could be a feature.

He may also override the RNG for some features, like the starting island biom. What we don't have right now are options for world creation that can manipulate the style of landmass, and there is a limit to the size of the islands that can be created. Red mentioned that in one of the other threads and he'll probably add more control over the world generator in the future.

But at least seeds are shareable so if we find certain numbers we like, sweet. I have several that people have posted here that generated worlds I liked ready to go when we hit 1.0. Waiting to see what they look like once we have the new bioms.

I agree, but sometimes it's easier to enter a term or name than numbers that are difficult to remember. I'm not sure if the seed number changed every time I used the lake seed in the old version, but there was definitely a lake nearby. I think we should wait for the update, where we can change many of the terrain conditions afterwards.
