Extended tech tree?
I played the game cooperatively with a friend, and at the beginning, we had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, after just a few hours, we had already unlocked the entire tech tree, and simply building for aesthetics became too boring for us in the long run. While there are still some development points on the roadmap, it doesn't seem like a major tech tree update is planned. I'm thinking of better tools and some automation, similar to Eco. Is anything along those lines planned?

There is a lot planned, from expanding and adding new recipes, which right now things are a bit thin. Farming and cooking will be more intricate once water mechanics are added back in. There is more to come in exploration and if you notice in the materials list, obsidian is referenced, which goes along with the planned volcanic region to be added soon. Things have just been frameworked out to be filled in later. Clothing should make it's return soon as well.
also, lately in a discussion about the straw bed Red admitted "the primitive stage needs more love". I think there's many things to come between start and medium workbench.

but such things need time.
it's a long way from a shiny idea over a meaningful concept to a balanced implementation.

especially when it's just one guy doing basically all the programming, and the income from the work is somewhat paltry due to the game not going viral.
The devs mentioned the "tech tree" we now have is just a prototype/experimental feature. A proper progress system, with leveling or research mechanics, will come later.
If you spend a little more time with the building system you actually have enough to do and don't need any automation like in satisfactory.
I've spent over 10,000 hours in this game and all these things didn't exist before; I got along just fine without them.
