Can't Mine in the Dark!
So i am a bit perplexed after reading through the discussion area here, It seems we have torches but no torch holders is that correct?

Been wanting to start a mine but with out the torch holders that idea has been put on hold.
I see the standing torches but they can't be attached to the walls which give much better lighting, standing torches don't illuminate caves.

Did I miss them in the crafting area if not when will we have torch holders for mining?

The wall torch takes the same materials as the old wall mount and torch in the java version so I'm guessing that's why the separate wall torch holders haven't been added yet.

The walltorch needs no holder, otherwuse you could use standtorches. Torch holders are planned afaik.

I use the standing torches. I move through with a regular hand torch and then just mark my path with standing torches. They're bright enough to mine most ores you find along the way, and I'll leave dark areas between them if they're easy to navigate. I also wear the mining helmet, but it's not quite as bright as the hand torch.

the miner's helmet resp. the safety helmet (lamp) or the climbing helmet (lamp) provide light independend from your hand, means you can use the pickaxe at the same time.
they have the problem that the lightsource is quite close to the EgoCam, so texture very close to the players face can get dark.
the torch in the hand provides better light. it is always in your sight but there always seems to be enough space for your hand no matter how close you are to the wall. strange dimensional phenomenon.

the standing torch is the more handy solution. a single torch costs 8 sticks and you can put 16 in one inventory slot. like other players I prefer those for lighting caves and mines.

the wall torch is like a holder for a torch, since you need a torch plus an iron sheet to build it.
it is cheaper in wood since the torch is only 2 sticks not 8, but it costs an extra iron per wall holder so to say and you can only fit 8 in one slot.

I work with the helmet plus some standing torches every now and then.

i mainly use wall torches but supplemented with the miner's helmet. i kind of miss the immersion of placing a torch in a holder, but really being able to just do one thing instead of two is way more convenient.
I use the standing torch and then resize it down to the smallest setting and then just place it on the wall...........

WOW thanks. I did not know you can completely resize the standing torch.

I now have a short wide torch and it looks so cool on things. :lunar2019coolpig:

Time to play more with the resize feature on other things. I only play in survival mode so I did not think I could that with other items too.

Standing torches don't give off as much light and you can't attach them to the walls of the mine, they are not good at all for mining.

Some things can only be resized in creative mode and most/all can be resized a lot smaller in creative mode than you can in survival.

I still build in survival, but now there's times I'll switch it to creative mode just for resizing, etc. and then switch back.

I have one of the open barrels in my workshop that I scaled way down and then scaled and placed the small trashcan in it so it looks like a barrel trashcan.

Then again I'm also the type that still takes the materials out of my inventory when I use one of my blueprints. lol
Currently I am using the miners helmet with the candle on it.... provides light by pressing L when you need a little light.
