Unable to progress in game due to bug
I posted about this before but I didn't get any comments.

I have around 40 hours in this game and I have been enjoying it thus far, but of course with the usual save corruption scare.

Anyways, I am on Korriban and have just completed the Tomb of Naga Sadow and found the Star Map plus the lightsaber. When prompted to enter the dialogue with Uthar and Yuthara, I chose to help Yuthara and then chose to let her go.

Now, this issue is when attempting to leave the Tomb and trying to enter/load the Valley of Dark lords, the loading screen freezes at about 30-40% and says 'saving'.

However, I know the game itself is not frozen as the in game mouse cursor still shows on the screen and when flaunting my lightsaber, the sound effects still play.

I have reviewed my game files, everything is okay, I have even reinstalled. I have also found someone with a very similar issue on the KOTOR subreddit, which was posted earlier this year, with more comments and goes into much more detail. However, no solution has been found.

I implore everyone to read the following post that I previously mention, and please help me and that other poor soul find a solution.

If you upload your file somewhere I could take a look at it and see if it's unique to your PC. At the very least, I might be able to move you past the loading screen and hopefully it won't be a persistent issue.

Thank you so much for responding. Where would I upload my files so that they can be reviewed?

Tinyupload would probably be a sensible place.

So I’ve been trying to upload all day but I can’t tell if I’ve made any progress. But I noticed that in their website it says 50 mb per file so maybe I shouldn’t have chose to upload the entire game? Which file should I upload to make this process easier and faster since all the files might be too big.

For it to work I need the full file in it's folder. The folder should look like "000031 - Game30" or any other combination of numbers that resemble that.

Whenever I try to upload a folder, the upload just gets stuck saying “upload started” and never makes any progress and the loading bar doesn’t even show up. I tried just uploading the files within the folder all at once but that didn’t work. So I guess just upload each file within the folder and send them independently?

Try packing it into a .zip or .rar file and then upload it.

So, your problem is with loading the Valley specifically it seems. No idea why. I tried going there manually, it froze. Tried warping there with the console, it froze. Tried warping into the Shyrack Cave and then walking out that way, it froze. If I had to take a wild guess I'd be willing to bet it's something to do with the dust particle effects out there, but who knows.

I gave up on that and instead warped you directly to Dreshdae. You're gonna have to miss out on slaughtering the academy and one small encounter with some Sith punks in the valley but unfortunately it can't be helped. I tried to warp directly into the academy first but the npcs weren't flagged as hostile because obviously I couldn't do the fight in the valley that triggers it. You only really miss out on a bit of XP so it shouldn't matter.

Either way, you should be able to board the Ebon Hawk and head out to the next objective wherever that may be for you.

Thanks so much. So quick question, do you know if this is something just for this save, or would this be something that would happen on every future character? Also, I thought of just teleporting to the Ebon Hawk using some cheat but couldn't figure out how, so how do I open up the console and teleport to the Ebon Hawk?

(ps is there a website/discussion with console commands for the game so that I can help myself if this were to happen again?)

edit: is that link a save file of me in the ebon hawk for me to download?

Activate the console, start a new game real quick and test it would be my advice. I can almost guarantee it's save related because I just tested out my own save and the Valley loaded fine. Though since your problem only surfaced after finishing Naga Sadow's Tomb, I can't say for certain, it would require actually getting back to that point in the game to test it.

In the game's main folder, there should be a file called swkotor.ini. Open it in Notepad, find the [Game Options] section and add the line "EnableCheats=1" without the quotation marks to the bottom of it. Save it. Close it. Refer to this guide if you get confused. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=149122961

Open the game, create a new game and once you gain control of the character hit the tilde key ~ on your keyboard. This brings up the console in the top left of your screen. Type "warp korr_m36aa" without the quotation marks and then hit enter. You should begin loading the Valley.

If it happens again, just do a search for KotOR Warp Codes. The file I linked to is after I warped you back into Dreshdae. You're standing in front of the Ebon Hawk's ramp.

Life saver! Thanks so much and happy new year.

This is just a weird bug because I was able to load the valley many times before, It kinda just bugged in that specific moment. Rip to that one dude on reddit though.

Yeah, that's the thing. It's impossible to know if the save is somehow partially corrupted or whether any choice or sequence of choices among hundreds of variables led to the game hanging there. You'd have to make a new file and go back through the whole game in the same order, making the same choices to know for certain. I'm pretty certain it's a wild fluke, unless you're using a some mod I'm unaware of.

Mods can introduce a whole other level of potential conflicts depending on how well they're made. The bigger the scope, the harder they are to diagnose the specific problem.
