How To Enable Cheats

Find and go to your game folder.
E.g. "C:\[your game directory]\Steam\steamapps\common\swkotor"
Open up swkotor.ini, go under [Game Options] then add "EnableCheats=1" without quotation marks.



When in game press the tilde key (` or ~) and type in codes you want to use. Press enter.

If you are having trouble opening the console, it is because we use keyboards with different layouts in different countries. Educate yourself from here.

Looked it up and apparently that particular code has never worked and isn't even listed in the game's code. If you're on Taris then just buy parts at the droid shop and use T3-M4 to do the repairs as his repair skills should be much higher than yours at that point in the game so he uses less parts.

The giveparts code, is it giving you an error message or just acting like the code worked but not giving you anything?

For example of codes that don't work, I personally never got the dancemalakdance code to work for me. Though that one could be situational and have a certain process to it that is never listed in these guides.

I think that one (along with a few other minor ones) was either bugged or removed in later game patches. That said it is also one of the more useless cheats in the list for one simple reason. Pretty much every store in the game sells parts and some of them aren't limited on stock. I think that if you have the credits, then you can buy more parts than you can even use in the game just from the first few vendors on the first 2 or 3 planets. Just give yourself credits and then go buy as many as you want.

Note: if you can't find your 'swkotor.ini' file by following the steps above, try following this path instead: Library > Application Support > Knights of the Old Republic. Your 'swkotor.ini' file might be hiding in there if you're playing on Mac via Steam. Once you've found it, pick up with the bullet point in the list above that starts with the words 'Right click'.

Also note that the ini file is usually generated after the first time you run the game. So if it isn't in the places above then run the game, go to options, change something and save, then close the game and try to find it again.

Right click on the file 'swkotor.ini', then choose 'Open With', and then choose to open your file with the software named 'TextEdit'
In the Text Editor, under 'GameOptions', add this line of code: EnableCheats=01
Save the file and exit out of all your folders
In the game, press the cheats key (commonly the key directly to the right of your left-hand shift key, but this can vary by region or keyboard) to bring up the cheat console in the top-left corner.
You can now enter cheat codes by typing them into the cheat console, and pressing enter to make them take effect.

On your Mac, click on your Desktop background
In the nav-bar at the top of the screen, click 'Go' and then, when the drop-down menu appears, press the options key
Select 'Library' from the list of options
In your Library, locate the file named 'Containers'
In the Containers folder, scroll down until you find the file marked 'com.aspyr.kotor'
In that file, open the folder named 'Data', then the file marked 'Library',
In the Library, find a file marked 'Application Support', and then the folder named 'Knights of the Old Republic'

I'm having difficult enabling cheats on MacOS Steam version of KotOR. I'm not finding the kotor.ini file anywhere and wondering if the way to enable has changed. Not sure if it helps but I'm on MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.1.2
