In the old times, you could drop in, hit duel, and get a live match.
I think that's almost never feasible now.
I think you can drop in, join an asynch game (kindof like play by mail) and there are still people playing that. If you join lots, it'll keep you busy daily:)
There's a free representative demo where you can try the singleplayer content and see if you like it: if you do, there are 4 more offline singleplayer realms and a load of online singleplayer realms (online realm quality is pretty variable, there are some good ones though!).
We still have semi-regular tournaments via the Discord, and the Discord is probably the best way to organize a live match.
