I don't understand the bad reviews. This game is free and great. It's a platformer that involves quick decision in order to eliminate enemies or reveal platforms for you to jump on. A wrong color will lead to your death. I think this is a great game and I recommend everyone to give it a try if they want to have a fun hour or two.

This is a fairly okay platformer. It's mechanic is interesting, and it's pretty okay. There isn't really a lot here worth noting. It's pretty difficult at times and requires precise timing for a few things. The game definitely feels more like a prototype (hence it being free to play). Overall I had some fun with my time playing it (although I was pretty frustrated at times).

Just let it be known, grab something else to listen to because the same song it all that played throughout the half hour that I played.

Again, for a free game it's worth the quick couple minutes of playtime. If it costed money I really wouldn't recommend picking it up.

I'd recommend this game - If it were on a site similar to Kongregate. As it stands, the game is pretty simple, nothing I didn't expect to find. The worst thing about it? The ridiculous amount of time he stays down for when hit. Really, it's a decent flash game. Seen better, seen worse.

It's an interesting concept and all, but the game wasn't designed very well.

For one, the game doesn't look that good. The animations are a little dull, and a palette of 6 colors doesn't leave much room for creativity. While I understand the reason for the choice, It's just boring to look at. The colors also mean that the walls you control disappear entirely when you get rid of them, which leads to annoying and unneccesary trial and error. You know where to go, you jump, you have no reference as to where you are in the jump, you cross your fingers and bring back the walls, and you clip into the wall, dying.
The game would have worked much better if the obstacles faded out instead of disappeared.

Two, the various RNG and practically unavoidable obsticles. Like the idea of objects randomly popping in front of you, leaving you no time to react? Do you like the method to get rid of them to be randomized. This happens TONS in this game, and it is extremely annoying having to constantly die and start over to get around them. A puzzle game shouldn't have you rely on luck.
Oh, and the hitboxes kinda suck too, and there are times when you can completely skip over areas.

Three, the game expects you to be psychic. There are far too many instances of the game putting the path out of your viewing range, forcing you to jump over a put to find out where to go. There are also cases where you fall down and have to dodge blades, and again, not knowing where they are and where to land. Not. Fun.

Four, the music. 1 track, looping over and over and over. The game is far too long to have just 1 track, especially with the constant retrying that you will have to do. Same for the SFX, as you are going to have to listen to the same jump grunt every single time you jump. Very repetitive.

Five, the story. He is blind, was sent to hell or something, and now controls colors for some reason. That's pretty much it.

There are also various other issues, such as the sometimes unresponsive controls and the weird health mechanic, but those are minor issues IMO.


In the end, I think it's a good concept, but poorly executed and just not fun to play. Unless you have some fetish with the color control concept, there isn't really a reason for you to play this. I wish I could say better, but it's not a game that anyone should bother playing.

Color Symphony is a platformer where you shift the world around you to avoid dangers.

Story:

You play as a man who one day gets betrayed by his trusted friend and is sent to hell, so you gather your strength as you try to escape. That's about it for the story, apart from this really funny opening cutscene story tidbits will be delivered to you by writing on the backgrounds of levels.

The writing is bland and uninspired, which is fine cause I don't think platformers need a great storyline to be good, but what's here is just terrible. The writing seems to try and be deep, but it's only as deep as a puddle, with most of the writing being pretty generic crap you can find in a betrayal story.

Graphics:

Color Symphony is a very rough looking game. It looks fine in the screenshots, but once the game is put into motion it tends to look rather cheap almost on par with a flash game. Animations are stiff and sort of finnicky, especially the jumping animation which just looks really funny.

The big thing about the game is the colors, which is the gameplay mechanic and honestly the picked colors are fine, but they the grading not to mention how the world looks make the world feel rather colorless. Green and Yellow are dark and blue's are just sort of washed out. It looks rather lifeless and it does not mesh well with the sort of hand drawn aspect of the platforms and the main character.

Audio:

Apart from the music, there's not much other audio design. There's only one track that plays constantly while playing and honestly it such a terrible track that it could drive anyone insane. It doesn't match the game whatsoever. The main character does make a few grunting noises when hit or when jumping, but they are both low quality and loud, which is just annoying to listen to, since you're going to be jumping constantly.

Gameplay:

The basic gist of Color Symphony is you're switching colors to have platforms to jump through and make obstacles disappear. It's actually really cool on paper and at first it plays fine, but you quickly start noticing issues that make the game annoying to play, even with it's incredibly short length.

First of all, one thing that every platformer needs to have is good controls if you don't have tight controls platforming will feel like a pain and sadly the controls in Color Symphony are not good. Controls feel incredibly stiff and slippery to the point where making some jumps incredibly hard, when they shouldn't be.

As stated before the main mechanic is the color switching to set a path for yourself to go through, but sadly this also feels incredibly underused. It feels like for a good majority of the game you only switch color once or twice per level, because the obstacles you need to avoid aren't that dangerous for you to switch a color to avoid them.

The level designs are also rather simplistic and don't increase in difficulty. It feels like the difficulty only comes from the terrible controls, instead of the levels getting increasingly difficult.

Verdict:

Even though Color Symphony is free, it's just bland and not fun. It takes roughly 35 minutes to finish the entire thing, but honestly I barely had any fun while playing. If the controls weren't as bad and the color changing mechanic was properly used I would have no trouble recommending it, but as is I don't recommend wasting your time.

This puzzle/platformer game looks more like a prototype in early development stage because of its graphics, sounds and music. (I actually liked the music itself but I don't think it's a really good choice for a game like this. And also, at some level, it can get a bit annoying to hear it over and over again.) Also, the controls are not very smooth. It gets frustrating to move the character sometimes.

Even though, I can not really say that it is aesthetically appealing and easy to use the controls, the game's mechanics design is interesting. You have to pick the right color, at the right time to make things appear/disappear. It can be a little bit tricky sometimes but it surely is brain teasing.

Worth giving it a try.

There are several problems with the game and the entertainment value isn't high enough to counterbalance them, leading to an overall recommendation. A few of them can already be seen in the video.
- It is not quite intuitive reacting to colors appropriately (a lot harder than just avoiding obstacles etc.) and given that fact the reaction time given often isn't enough in my opinion. That leads to learning the sequence by failing over and over again rather than actually reacting to the game.
- Level design: it's somewhat annoying when a new level starts with a floating platform moving right away from you and every time you start the level again you have to wait 10-20 seconds for it to return before you can actually start.
- Also there is still a small gap between the floating platforms and the ground when they have arrived, so when you try to walk on them you will fall and die, making it necessary to perform a jump, which again is quite high. Overall the gameplay does not feel very well-thought-out in these moments.
- Countless situations, where precise color switching is necessary, but you have absolutely no context to determine your own position because everything on the screen matches the background color.
- The visible area is too small. You have to fall down dying just to learn where is the correct way to go. Again it's memorizing how and where to play the level rather than reacting to it.
- Mechanics: many small issues like double jump not working over the entire period of the first jump, walls/objects affecting jumps not very well, etc.
- Waiting times after taking damage.
- The "Story" could as well have been skipped completely.

I saw from the video that the successor is already doing a lot of those things better.

If those things were a bit more optimized it would still not be a great game (levels are not very exciting), but I could recommend it at least. With the problems in consideration I have to say rather No than Yes.

I understand the bad reviews.... It is hard and like mario-invisible-block unfair.
But I call it a good game, because it is challenging and it fits the character; Because he is sort of blind.

The style is a lot like anime which Iam not fond of: vampires, elfish ears, slender bodies and dresses and over-emoted japan feel in the design. But I tolerate it, because there're plenty of players who enjoy it and I got to admit it myself it is not a bad design and gameplay.

I like the feel of the game world, the feel of a sort-of blind person because you have to do a lot of jumps of faith, uncertainty of where is trap and where is safety and mostly fight a daemons which connects the outside world with the mind of player's.
The only negative thing is story, because I didnt get it from the game but more likely from comments, but I guess it is again the anime thing.
And also that it is pretty short but fine for the zero prize you'll pay for it.

In the nutshell:
- fine control, you which are able to used to
- good gameplay and idea that you feel youself as blind and the character.
- good and clever design
- great prize for a fine one evening game.
- fine story and mood if you are an otaku or anime fan (I guess)

I've played though it. Cool mechanic, but it's pretty buggy so rather tedious to get through and the level design is mostly acceptable at best, very confusing at worst. Not a bad game, but certainly not good as well. A little polish would have made this a much more enjoyable experience.

Not a bad game, though it might be a bit repetitive in music and those with poor finger-coordination will have a bit of trouble, it was a nice refreshing puzzle game. Though, it feels like it fits better in a Flash game or something smaller, but I digress.

There was a very off-setting thing in this game that, quite frankly, make me a bit irritated. The repetitive, boring music. Now you could just as easily cut your music volume to not, but I find it much more pleasing to go into the game files and switch the .ogg main music file with one you prefer. I pretty much got my collab of music and compiled them into an audio format using my Video editor, and replaced the larger music file with the same name. It registered and played with my collab, and thus it made it more enjoyable.

While some aren't as adventursome as me to change game files, I can see why there were negative reviews, and the only reason why I'm recommending this is because there is no in-between. I don't feel like this is a great game, but it has potential being a puzzle game and all. But I have to give it some credit for making me smash my Z, X and C keys in anxiety trying to get the right color before I died.

Again, not the best game. It might have had better luck as a Flash game, instead of trying to pose for a higher-up game, but it still isn't too bad for being a free game.
That said, I'm gonna try to not play this game for a while. My head hurts.
