Assassin's Creed Shadows is unplayable on a brand new rtx 5090 laptop
Seriously what is this? As soon as I use the Steam Overlay or Ubisoft Connect, the game fps drops to like 15-20 and the overlay stutters so much that I can only barely use the mouse anymore and I can´t even close the overlay properly because it lags so much. My old desktop pc with an RTX 2070 Super runs the game better than this lol.

Are you sure you are setting the laptop to use your GPU and not the integrated graphics? I mean performance in general in this game is horrid even on a 4070 Ti Super. But dropping to 15-20 frames hasn't happened over here. Make sure to set it to maximum performance and use the laptop plugged in and make sure all "battery" saving type of options are turned off.

I think I may have found the culprit. For some reason the MSI Center Performance settings were set to "Eco Mode" by default. That basically gives the worst possible performance. I will boot up Shadows and see if it runs better now.

Which is basically battery saver mode. That's why I said turn off all battery saving options. They will down clock your hardware in order to "conserve" energy, these eco things in order to cap carbon emissions are stupid, especially in a PC. At least in my opinion. If you want full performance on your laptop, always play with it plugged in to the wall and disable all battery saving options in Windows and wherever else. Also set the power mode to Best Performance or High Performance in the control panel. Balanced is okay too but yeah.

Yes this fixed it. Getting amazing performance now. Way better than what my RTX 2070 Super desktop PC can ever achieve. Never thought that a laptop could perform this well. I am impressed. But I'm not sure if I can keep this laptop. Finding a carrier bag for this kind of massive beast is difficult. And it is not very ergonomical for my back and neck, especially because I have a severe case of scoliosis.

I'm sure you can find a backpack that will fit the laptop somewhere. But yeah, Desktops are usually better overall in my opinion. Good that it's fixed and working properly now.
