Hypocracy
When Nioh had a white man as the protagonist, nobody mentioned anything. Japanese games overwhelming represent white men in almost every game they make, no questions asked.
But when a game adds one black man as a samurai which is historically accurate according to the literature everybody loses their mind! Yasuke was represented in Japanese media occasionally even before AC Shadows and people had no problem then. Its as if this entire outrage is manufactured by certain groups of people online to have an excuse to grift and make money from their brain dead followers.
It got so bad that there were western men pretending to be Japanese citizen to criticise the game, it was so embarrassing. Their hate boner is amazing. Shows how weak you are as a group, stupid grifters.

I guess fighting the pope and flying across a city with a made up flying instrument in earlier AC games are fine but having one black man is crossing the line, pathetic.

Also, Nioh is literally a fantasy game though... With Yokai n ♥♥♥♥♥♥. So who gives a ♥♥♥♥?
It doesn't try not to be. Unlike AC Shadow depicting real historical figure in real historical events.
"ManVSGame racist rant against Nioh.
So I was watching ManvsGame the other day do a playthrough of Nioh. Figured he would enjoy the game since he loves souls games. Well instead of just playing the game and enjoying it he instead just talked for an hour or so how dumb it is the protagonist is white. When his chat tried to fill him the story behind the game and that the protagonist was actually half japanese he said he didn't care. At one point he said just wanted to play as a "Grey haired samurai" which is what the protagonist is. While he was going on this rant I thought to myself what if the protagonist was black. I have a feeling he wouldn't have a single issue with that. Then two minutes later he said just that lol.

My question to the Nioh community, does it really bother you that much that the protagonist is white or half white I guess? Idk maybe coming from a souls game where your character is covered in armor the entire game, it really doesn't bother me."

b..b...b...b... but you can LITERALLY make him have (NON-CANON) romance with another guy so its literally like super woke because hes (non-canon) gay. Also did you see they used HIP HOP and they have JAPANESE people bowing to a BLACK MAN!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!? literally what the flip this game is so racist to Japanese people becuase a black guy is in the game

/s
AC shadows claimed it was as historically accurate as possible before being called out on using a fake historians books as reference, they back tracked on that claim very fast, nioh never claimed that but the person you play as, William is a real English navigator who actually became a real samurai unlike yasuke who was made up, the enemies in Nioh are mainly yokai as well, AC shadows also used the 1 legged torri gate which was left standing after the atom bomb that became a monument to remember the people lost to it as a promotional marital for a game where you primarily kill Japanese people, in AC shadows they let you destroy a famous shrine and it has female sumo's which is a massive no in their culture, if a woman even so much as touches a sumo ring they need to instantly purify it with salt. So assassins creed shadows is massively disrespectful while Nioh was not. There was an incident were a sumo was hurt and they refused to let the only medic on site in to help him due to the medical person being a female, he was eventually saved once firefighters made an appearance and carried him to a medical attention area.

Whats the point of this response? What did you accomplish?

Big difference.

Nioh was never marketed as historically accurate. ACS was, but there is very little accuracy about Yasuke, the story or world.

Nioh is a fictional game, it doesn't matter. This does not even compare.
AC Shadows claims to be based on real life history, but is going it's own way, Yasuke was not a samurai, no matter what game says. Plus bunch of other history breaking/ignoring stuff.
It's more believable as Whites actually had historical interactions with feudal Japan. Black men rarely left Africa. The black guy wouldn't have been a problem if they didn't try to claim it as historically accurate from a fraudulent source. They made things worse by adding LGBT relationships in a time period where gays would be brutally murdered if open about it. They pissed of Japanese historians by claiming a false source and on top of that they piss off the Japanese by being disrespectful to their culture in many ways.

The point is its a work of fiction. Its not supposed to be taken seriously. I don't think Ubisoft has ever claimed it to be 100% historically accurate have they? Also there is a book written by a Portuguese traveller that addresses Yasukes existence in Japan. Also there are paintings that depicted him during that time period. He was a retainer according to my research but Ubisoft just took a creative liberty with that information, thats it. He was a Samurai though.

AC never claimed that it is 100% accurate. That is just absurd. Why would anyone claim it to be with such confidence? If they did then Ubisoft is stupid.
Ac games always twist history to make it entertaining. This was the case from the fist game.

They did many disrespectful things, you asked why 1 was controversial and the other was not and that is why, 1 made a mockery of their history and culture while the other avoided anything that could be seen as disrespectful. That is the answer to your question.
