that wouldn't be early access, that would be moving up the release date
It's only 7 more days.

Simmer.

If there was an early access option, I'd buy it right now.

In the gaming world, "early access" means purchasing and playing a game before its official release, often in an unfinished or buggy state, to provide developers with feedback and funding for continued development.

No way we've hit the point people are begging to be tricked by a business. It's so joever.

Have you considered gacha gaming?

yes, thats what the TERM "early access" means in the gaming world, but when its "pre purchase early access" it means something else doesnt it?

tons of games are doing it, CoD is the first that comes to mind

You really think 'early access' is about providing feedback and helping developers? That’s adorable. Let’s be real here. ‘Early access’ in the AAA space is just paying to play on time. The game isn’t releasing early; you’re just getting the privilege of throwing extra money at a publisher for something that’s already done. It’s not a beta, it’s not about ‘shaping the game,’ it’s just a scammy way to wring more cash out of people who can’t wait a few days.

And let’s talk about feedback. When has Ubisoft, or any other bloated corporate husk of a publisher, ever actually cared about meaningful player input? They can’t be bothered to address critical issues in a three-month beta, but you think they’re going to magically fix things in the one week between ‘early access’ and the actual release date? Come on. You’re not funding development, you’re not helping shape the game. You’re just willingly forking over extra cash for a slightly shorter wait time, and they’re laughing all the way to the bank.

But hey, if you enjoy being milked like an ATM-shaped cow, by all means, keep supporting the grift. Just don’t pretend it’s anything other than what it really is: a scam wrapped in corporate double-speak and sold to people who think waiting a few days is just too hard.

Literally copy and pasted the definition of "early access" because OP asked for a definition. Whelp, there they go.

I would note that this greedy developer that you don't trust and their products are living rent free in your head.

Lol. Just deal with it
For me this will be the first game in a long while that I actually buy on release. Usually its +1 year later when all the hype & talk have died. It's a rare occurance but I do love the franchise.

Same.
Something comforting about the Ubi open world as well. Their worlds are so huge and well made because of the scale of the company and resources they have. Every AC game has been good in its own right.

People just wanna hate Ubi becuase its Ubi.

I'm waiting for reviews on this one but as soon as they are out if the reviewers i trust are generally positive then im picking it up.

It's 2025, early access has been a pre-order bonus for decades at this point. It's nothing new. In the most simplest terms, it usually means you pay $10-$50 more, and get you to play 1-7 days earlier than release date. Starfield for example had a release date of September 6, however, those who preordered the special edition or whatever Bethesda called it were allowed to play starting on the evening of August 31st, about 6 days earlier than launch. Ubisoft could very well have sold early access for Shadows, but they have sadly chosen not to.

Which reviewers specifically? IGN rates a lot of games higher than they turn out to be. At the very least, I hope your going to listen to independent reviewers who love Assassin's Creed.

They don't want you to see how bad the game is early.
Wonder how poorly and buggy it will be at launch.
