I agree. There are bad actors on all sides.
You can always head over to Reddit for a person such as you that fixate on "play and support" culture, and I understand that constant reminder of libertarian culture of Steam forums is not something that everyone likes. Over at Reddit, while negativity still exist, but they are downvoted by your fellow redditor to oblivion and usually sink to the bottom of the thread, so there is a kind of natural filtering, unlike here you have to do the work yourself constantly to reach the same level of tidiness that you wish for.
Or just ignore.
While their voting system may be compromised by biased moderators, their dedication to positvity, pure passion is nothing to jeer at. I can at this point confidently believe that Reddit is a better environment for some individuals, especially those who experience disturbing emotions (an unfortunate happening) while navigating the bowels of Steam forum, positivity and reinforcement can uplift their life to a better place. :)
I don’t know, to me, 90% of the comments on this post saying "woke s**t" and stuff like that are just hate. I understand the criticism, but almost none of it is objective. Nobody even talks about the gameplay or story, which are ultimately the most important things in gaming. But anyway, I just want to talk about a game I like with people who also enjoy it, and I can’t because it’s filled with these comments that basically seem political. And I’m the immature one, okay.
Ubisoft mentioned ‘historical accuracy’ to hype up the game, but let’s be honest, they’ve never been about making things 100% accurate. People took the term too seriously and blew it out of proportion. They knew what they were doing, but some fans took it way too far and acted like the game had to be ‘perfectly’ accurate.
The Assassin’s Creed games are more ahistorical than people realize. The one game that might have come the closest to portraying some real history is the first game in 2007.
i have been trying to refrain from jumping into the controversy, but it can be hard to do when people are posting blatantly racist troll memes about george floyd samurai and watermelons. and it has become impossible to try and engage with the good faith critics, because some of them will present their arguments in good faith, but will make veiled attempts at egging on the trolls while pretending they are acting in good faith. and then there are some defenders of the game who are attacking other users and flaming in the same way as the sbi detected and asmongold trolls.
i try to ignore it as much as i can, but i often fail, and experience the same type of engagement you have experienced.
i think best thing we can do is talk in another thread and let the troll-heavy posts like this one die their natural death, ignore the ignorant as much as possible, and try to talk about the game and not the controversy.
You’re absolutely right, it’s difficult because I really want to talk about the game with people who like it and with respect, but when they start attacking, it’s hard sometimes to hold back and not respond—especially when you’re supposedly in an environment where there should only be people who enjoy the game. But yeah, I think this is as far as I go; not responding anymore is the best thing, and letting the post die out slowly. Maybe the best thing is to create a Steam group where we can moderate it ourselves and only allow discussion about the game itself or meaningful criticism.
They shouldn't had entered the train wagon saying that the game was historically accurate in the first place. That was bad marketing maneuver since they never did before! Still, we all know what happened and some people ignored the reason.
We would not be in this whole mess if Ubisoft had better administration. It seems their developers never had someone saying "this doesn't look good", instead "oh, this is nice, it's a new trend, let's go with that"! Actually, they probably had, but those people might be among those fired in recent years.
Heck, story wise, AC games are all over the place, they went too far.
You're right, they could've done better without making that claim. But honestly, I don’t think it would’ve stopped the outrage. People would’ve found something else to complain about, like the usual stuff with the franchise.
No, the game having woke stuff is definitely relevant.
It's added not to make a game better, but to push a political/ideological agenda.
If you wanna push a game toward a specific ideology... don't act surprised when people of the opposite side gonna criticise you.
It's also important for people to criticise it, cause then they'll know not to do it again in the future.
And YOUR VIEW ON THIS IS POLITICAL/IDEOLOGICAL..
You are doing the exact same as the people you're talking about.. you just don't know you're doing it.
Right, but there were people who liked Yasuke in media way before all this, and there were people who played Nioh 1 back in 2017, hyped to see him, and were hoping to play as him one day. Now that they’ve got the chance to do so, does that count as pushing a political/ideological agenda? Seems more like Ubisoft just giving players options. Also, there are countless movies and games with native Japanese, so I don’t see how one game can ruin that or even try to rewrite history.
