Ubisoft is harvesting your data illigally and is fined 79m
As the title said. Ubisoft have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
Ubisoft is in violation of Under Article 6(1) GDPR. When they collect data on users in SP games (ie. AC: Shadows) due to forcing users to connect to the internet (their servers) everytime they boot up the SP game.

This is something that happens with Assassin's Creed Shadows as well and you should all know that this is happening. If you are a EU citizen, then Ubisoft is in violation of your rights and you should take it seriously.

In my opinion, this should be enough to claim a refund (no matter the hours you have played) unless Ubisoft remove the connect to servers on launching the game.

What is your opinion about this? Are you scared of playing Assassin's Creed Shadows? Do you care about Ubisoft collecting data on you while playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?
Personally I think it is highly problematic and in my opinion the fine for such an action should be a billion in stead (its the only way big corproations learn to behave)

All that data harvested, yet they couldn't come up with game people would actually want to play.

It is scary, that they are harvesting data in SP games like this and that they might resell it.

It will be interesting to see what happens here, but one thing is certain and that is that this is not going to help Ubisoft´s current reputation.

Well, guess that explains the "always online" being mandatory almost everywhere.
Hope this fine discourages some of this behavior from others, but who knows.
Still, this is a big betrayal of my trust. Funny how there's always bit more of that to lose.

My opinion of them was low after their many bad or mediocre releases, but this is what breaks the camels back.

The main issue is that they do it illigally and in secret.
But how many consumers would accept this, if they knew it? I am sure that it would hurt sales of ie. AC:S and that is why it was keept secret.

It is great that we get these practices stopped. Hopefully next step is banning weird currencies, MTX in SP games and live-services in SP.

Eeeh, stopped is bit too optimistic, this is just a single case most likely, but it's a step in right direction nonetheless. Best measure is to strike them at the wallet. This should discourage some of them.
The sooner we do away with "always online" for single-player games, the happier i will be.

I agree large fines is the way to go and hopefully soon we will have SP games without this sneaky stuff.

I hope AC:S gets changes as well
The game was released with its own issues;

-Act 2, and beyond the story is disconnected
-Combat, albeit good, and pretty good for a AC game, is still lacking in comparison to GoT
-Simple game play loop and questing, each area doesnt feel iconic, just clear quests, when for example there should be area quests for the circle of people (gangs)
-Policing system is quite simple and does not add to end game
-Gearing is very simple, and not a carrot on the stick to encourage people to play more, which again for an AC game is standard, but for an AAA RPG is subpar
-Animus and getting loot, the gear art is not that great - which is part of the end game

Of course there are good things about the game, but the fact that they have these issues, and they put this amount of polish, and money into the game, shows they dont have the team managers to properly develop their game. Probably why they are collecting information since the information within the studio has no vision or guidance on how to develop the game properly.

Its just a sub bar game developer and shadows with enough right features would have been an easy cash grab for them.

Or rather it is an easy win in regards to the success of AC shadows for them, due to the timing of the release of the game, and being just good enough, but ofc not worth the full asking price, imo.

Your title is incorrect.

A complaint was filed on 24/4/25 by noyb. They put the pdf online.
That is all that has happened until now.

Wel yes.
But this is about how Ubisoft violated EU rules with games such as Assassin's Creed Shadows

This is the one series I follow every installment of. They act like our information hasn't already been sold countless times before, even by our own government at this point. Stolen from banks, sold by Blizzard, etc.

Protecting ourselves from it was never in the cards.

So you came to derail the thread?
Very mature.

The fact that you slander me, showcase that you are not very mature... You can´t even back your weird accusations up... I never said anything of the things you direct at me....
What I have said, is that Ubisoft is in financial trouble and have made strategic missteps the last 5 years (illustrated very well with their stock) and that they are in debt + reconstruction (both are true)

I´ve also listed comprehensive data about why this game did not make a profit, but that does not mean the game can´t be good/fun.. since those are subjective things.. but you are on a personal vendetta, in a thread about something completely else.

The fact you can´t take the side of the consumer in such a problematic situation as this, is very weird to me. But maybe that is because you are affiliated with Ubisoft?

Rockstar? Don´t you mean Take-Two Interactive... Rockstar is a subsidiary after all..
GTAVI is not even going to release on PC, it is a full blown console action adventure with sandbox... It will ofc be popular with the mainstream..

If Take-Two Interactive or Nintendo do data collection illigally, they should also be punished, but do you have any evidence of them doing this? if not.. then its just slander.

I would not be here if I were not interested in playing a Ubisoft game.

What are you folks motivation? I mean that's some deep dedication to be on a discussion forum of a game you don't want to play.
