Finally—A Black Protagonist in Japan Done Right 🎌✊🏾
Ubisoft really took a risk with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and I have to give credit where it’s due. Yasuke as a playable character isn’t just a cool gameplay choice—it’s a powerful statement. A real Black samurai, based on a historical figure who actually existed in 16th-century Japan? That’s not fantasy—it’s fact. And it's about time mainstream games told stories like his.

Too often, Japan gets portrayed as a monoculture in media, when its history—especially during the Warring States period—was full of complexity, trade, and foreign influence. Yasuke’s story reminds us that Black people were part of that history. This game doesn’t shoehorn him in—it puts him in his rightful place.

Representation like this matters. It’s not just diversity for diversity’s sake—it’s diversity with depth. And seeing a Black samurai clash blades with the backdrop of feudal Japan? Absolute chills. 🔥

Hope more studios take notes: accurate representation doesn’t take away from a story. It enriches it. Do not lissten to the hatters
