Possible to play offline?
Like the title says: I live in a rural area where my internet tends to cut in and out, and is often just down for half the day during network congestion. I like playing large, open-world single-player games like Assassins Creed, but lately it's been hard with their forced always-online stuff. Is this game able to be played offline, or will it just waste my time and money? It's already 70 dollars, so I do expect a ninja to hand-deliver a copy to my house for that price...

Nope.
You need always online, you buy a limited licence that can be revoked at anytime.

What they want is you using their rental service

This is quite literally just a flat out lie that you've been corrected about multiple times.

That's... not even an option for me lol
Well I suppose I'll pass on this game. My internet is REALLY bad, I just managed to get on to check this today after posting it!
If your internet is so bad that you can't even get online for a split second and super low speeds for a quick authentication check, how on earth did you plan on buying and then downloading a 102.614 GB game?
I had no internet for over a month recently, dont see why should I log in to confirm anything for an offline product.
Just pass on this game if you don't have the stable internet for it. The struggle is, unfortunately, not worth the results. Especially for $70 usd. :sadkitty:

Is it a lie that you need to be online to start the game?
What about you only owning a licence to play?

Isn't that how games that require internet work nowadays? I might just be stupid but I thought they just did that with The Crew. The Crew didn't necessarily require internet to play but now you just can't play it at all.

You need to be online for activation once every 2 or so weeks, same as most Steam games really. You do NOT need a constant always online connection to play the game.

The Crew was literally an online-only racing game. That was the game's entire premise. It was essentially an MMO racer.

No. It uses online DRM in the form of Denuvo. It might work for a while offline (ranging from hours to weeks, depends on how it was coded). But it will need the servers to authenticate.

Servers which will obviously be shut down one day making the game unplayable. As the og disk version of Bioshock. It was never patched to work without the servers.

AC Shadows is temporary. DOOM is eternal. No pun intended. Still rocking the game from 1993. So many great mods. DOOM Dark Ages is also temporary, uses always online DRM.

yes, that is a lie, because it is a massive oversimplification of how it actually works. offline tokens exist, therefor you do not need to be online to start the game.

you need to be online for the initial activation and when your token expires.

and another one spreading "what if"'s and massive oversimplifications...

will the servers shut down? likely, when? that could be decades from now.

it doesn't matter anyways, because denuvo isn't a one time payment deal anymore, to encourage developers from removing it when it has served its purpose.

the only servers that shut down were u-play and the multiplayer servers for AC on older consoles. and even if they *did* shut down ubisoft's actual servers, you would still own the game. i highly doubt ubisoft wouldn't make their games offline-able after the crew.

"Warning: This title uses 3rd-party DRM (Ubisoft Connect (always connected), Denuvo Anti-Tamper)"
Nope.
You can lol

But first! You need to have internet connection and then start the game until you reached the main menu. That's when Denuvo token is generated. Afterwards, you can disable internet and just play the game.

Once you made changes to the motherboard bios, update windows, then the denuvo token is no longer valid and requires you to connect to Internet and redo the process again.

It says so right there on the store page:

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-Tamper

Which translates into the game being always online.
