Which is strange, given that most games give you the companions at the start, and then have them abandon you later, due to your decisions.
This game doesn't mess about. As soon as they meet you they'll say, "Not interested."
The first companion hated me and refused to help. The second almost said no. And the third was on the fence.
And it's all because of the choose-your-own-adventure dialogue options that have the heart next to them. I'm not going to sleep with a guy who gets off on urinating on corpses. Or someone of the same sex.
However, in this game, that puts you out of favour with these maniacs that you meet.
i mean i personally choose not to engage in any of it
simply bc
they're kinda shallow except maybe katsuhime imo
i think valhalla kinda had the better romances?? which is weird.
This is not at all my experience, Naoe never chose any of the heart options for three of the four people she can romance in this game, Gennojo and Katsuhime willingly and eagerly joined her at the end of their quest chain regardless... you must have done something very, very wrong for them to have doubts about joining you.
Same with Yasuke, I engaged with Lady Oichi because it's absurd and funny (but she's not an ally you recruit) all the other allies Yasuke engages with who have romance options (one only really) never received a heart dialogue option from Yasuke, yet that character too immediately joined the clubhouse... just do their quests, make sure you succeed and that certain people do not die. The ONLY things that matter about wainting to join or not are when the game tells you "this will impact character xyz!". Do the right thing here and you will always recruit the ally! Romance or no romance dialogue option is entirely meaningless when it comes to actually recruiting the ally.
In canon mode one ally will die and can't be recruited.
That somewhat unhinged poison girl will only join if you use the Naoe dialogue options and side with her.
It's super easy and super obvious what to do in this game when you want to recruit someone.
you could also just
not romance anyone
lol
one of the people you assassinate
But no, this isn't box checking. This is totally just a random roll of the dice in Feudal Japan. It could just have easily been two straight male Japanese individuals.
And don't forget that the larger trend of other AAA gaming companies doing the same thing is also more random rolls of the dice.
It's all one giant coincidence. But it's a good thing that needs to keep happening. And if it doesn't randomly happen, there will be protests. Not even small indie titles are safe (check out what happened to Soulash 2).
If this was organic and not forced, so many more people wouldn't have a problem with it.
It was hilarious, gifting a dog to Lady Oichi's kids was the closest Yasuke ever got to having sex in japans history.
if the romance is forced why is it entirely optional
So what youre saying is people have 0 self control and have trouble making thier own decisions. I just think people complaining about this just can't resist the temptation. Nothing is wrong with that.
Don't you love it when these people say the quiet part out loud? This guy here is basically admitting that choice is NOT okay. That's what these people are about. It's not good enough that the choice to be straight is there (because it is). They have to insist that not only CAN the characters be straight in their game, they must be straight in everybody's else's game too, whether those other players like it or not.
This is what social conservatism is all about. It's about NOT giving us choices because with choice, we might choose what they consider "wrong" choices. We might have thoughts of our own. Can't have that!
