It sounds like maybe you've only been relying on Autosaves if you think this game only has one save file.
Tegridy is here to shoot down anything positive that you have to say, so there's no point in arguing about gamers and their save file competency.
The first thing that gamers do when they F-up is blame the developer. It's a reflex action for not wanted to take responsibility for their actions.
Gamers are, after all, the smartest creatures on the planet.

Nonsense, autosaves in AC games are limited to 5 and then they get overwritten and are mainly there in case you get killed. The smart way is every time you quit out of the game make a hard save overwriting your previous hard save. That way when you run into a bug you can go back to the hard save you made a few hours earlier rather than having to start the game over again because all the autosave were written over and only go back a few minutes.
