Ubi started all of this though with claiming that it was historically accurate and then had to walk it back with a massive apology letter when they got called out on it. It genuinely blows my mind that they would even take that route since all the AC games are historical fiction

I generally like AC protagonists even in the games I don't like such as 1 and 3, Yasuke has a unique POV being a foreigner forced to adapt to the politics and culture of a different land while having loose ends from his past as a slave coming back to him and this being tied to the assassin-templar conflict. I found that more interesting than Naoe's somewhat typical revenge storyline, even if I do like her well enough.

I'm not sure if that was just poor communication or some translation problem, but since Ubisoft did address the issue publicly I decided to just take this game's story for what it is: A fictional take on a historical period and its figures, like the other games did. I do have my criticisms, especially for act 2 where basically nothing interesting happens besides Yasuke and Naoe going around and killing Shinbakufu leaders, but overall I thought it was pretty decent.

Yasuke's story after the main story is actually quite good, I Just cant stand how they force you to notice him evertime and every cutscene they ask you again which character you want to play. As I said they knew how to do it back in Black Flag/Freedom Cry already, I have no Idea how they managed to mess it up so bad in Shadows?

Its likely just from the fact that none of the people who did the writing knows what the fans wanted in a Japanese AC game. They refused to make one for so long and only decided to when Ghost dropped and was a massive hit. By then all the people who built AC as a huge IP had left.

Games like AC SHadows aren't dropped in less than a year. Please stop regurgitating random twitter nonsense.

No, it didn't, Games like Shadows are planned well in advance and you can't just 360 something already started. Ghost of Tsushima had zero impact on the developement of Shadows. Beecause *what you said* was that " only decided to when Ghost dropped".

Yeah there is so much controversy if he was even Samurai or not. In the previous games, setting and actors always fit well. I don’t care if he is black at all and would not want to play a white samurai either.
Why not stay true to what they did before and make it fitting.
I have a feeling Yasuke was a politician decision to do like that and that’s a bit sad because I do not like when our politics reflect so much in games in general. No matter if they are right or far left positions…

If an AC would ever play in Southern Africa or maybe also in USA in the 19th or 18th century I would think a black protagonist very fitting and would play him gladly.

But in Japan in THAT era? Come on! 😂

I think many players are not racists, if they demand an asian samurai as main character ... you see, 99,9% of the samurais were asian people ... why just pick the only black samurai in history? That I think is the point for many players, not because they don't like black people.
