I feel cheated – critical KB+M combat bug (Shift + Left Click)
I feel genuinely cheated discovering several hours into the game that heavy attacks don’t work with keyboard and mouse using the default configuration. This isn’t a minor oversight—this is a fundamental combat mechanic in a story-driven action game that many players only experience once.

The issue seems to be how the game handles Shift + Left Click, which is supposed to trigger heavy attacks. For keyboard and mouse users, this input simply fails to register properly, and the result is playing the game with severely limited combat functionality without even realizing it.

There’s no warning. No prompt. No hotfix. Just a broken mechanic that silently cripples the gameplay experience.

I spent hours thinking I was doing something wrong. In reality, a core part of the gameplay was just broken. That’s not just disappointing—it’s game-breaking, especially in a game where combat is central to the experience.

This urgently needs to be addressed. A fix is required to restore proper Shift + Left Click functionality for keyboard and mouse players, and there should be clear guidance in-game to prevent others from unknowingly missing out on a key part of the combat system.

I trusted this game to deliver the full experience. What I got was half.

it is working i just tried it mate....it is only your problem
If it was a prevalent issue your topic would not be the only one about it. Far from it.

It's definitely not just my problem.

A Ubisoft developer in another thread mentioned that this issue might be related to timing — specifically, that Shift has to be pressed after the mouse click. That’s a pretty unintuitive requirement for such a core mechanic.

I can get it to work sometimes, but not reliably — and certainly not how it’s intended to function.

This causes the game to play more like a generic hack-and-slash, rather than using the intricate and timing-based combat system that was clearly designed.

Pressing Shift before the mouse click doesn’t work. Pressing them simultaneously doesn’t work either. You sometimes get random heavy hits by smashing Shift, but that’s obviously not the intended input.

You also can’t fluidly do two heavy attacks in a row, or use heavy attack as your main style — unless you find some workaround.

Out of curiosity: are you able to consistently trigger the correct behavior by pressing Shift just before the mouse button? If not, what technique are you using?

I’ve found that remapping the key does help — but the remapping options are limited. For example, assigning heavy attack to the right mouse button interferes with marking, tool use, and the bow.

And there’s no warning or indication in-game that remapping is necessary to get it to function correctly. So most players won’t even realize that what they’re experiencing is a bug.

That’s why I consider this a critical issue that needs to be fixed — not just a minor quirk. It affects core gameplay and risks ruining the intended experience for a lot of players without them even knowing it.how important those hours are.

I feel like this is happening to me when i'm also inputting a directional button.
i.e. I'm fighting someone and I want to use a heavy attack, so I press Shift+LMB+W (W as an example), so what happens is the directional light attack plays out.
I noticed that i have to think about releasing a directional button first and then doin Shift+LMB, then a proper heavye attack plays out.

not intuitive but ehh
hopefully they fix it though
Change it to a different mouse button bro.

I have a similar gripe over the quick throw button, because that CANT be changed, and ya cant really hit G during combat.

I have never seen Shift+Left mouse not perform a heavy attack, even in 60+ hours of playtime.

No I had the same problem when I used m k, it doesn't work at all, homdbshift elft click does light atyack. I use controller mostly, but if I bind heavy atyack to mouse side button then guess whay it does a heavy atyack, but not on shift left click.

Default Keyboard controls are horrid. "Q" for both grappling hook and Parry? That was messy and the first thing I changed. I have times where a key press is not recognized. Sometimes I have to hit "C" more than once for example.

The programmer who coded it was thinking backwards.

It's Hold LeftClick + Press Shift.
It should be Hold Shift + Press LeftClick.

In the end, it proves 100% Ubisoft doesn't even play test their own game using a Keyboard and Mouse.

It's not though. Ubisoft developer made a post in Player Support thread about this. It's coded wrong. There should be 4 different attacks. If you haven't played with a controller yet, it's possible you're confusing with the alternate charged attack.

Mind that some might have problems with keyboards not being able to register that many keys at the same time. I have NKRO.

I can confirm that the issue is real. Rebinding heavy attack from shift-leftclick to one of the side buttons helped. And thanks for the heads-up.
Heave attack works for me.

Hey guys, i have made a bug report about this here[www.ubisoft.com]. Upvote this issue in the bug report site, so that ubisoft knows how many people are facing this issue and hopefully fixes it soon.

Also, a temporary fix is to bind heavy attack to some other key, which works properly.
